This sweet and elegant wedding comes to us from wedding photographer Britney of Turn Loose the Art, based in Portland, OR!
We knew we wanted an outdoor wedding – we both love being outdoors, especially here in the Pacific Northwest. The color scheme was actually based off a sunset we saw in Terrebonne, Oregon, after our day of rock climbing was cut short by a storm. The sky was a gorgeous combination of gray and coral, and so we chose those colors! We also wanted it to be a pretty classic wedding, since we both are pretty traditional. So that guided our music choice of more rat pack/crooners and the use of gold as our main accent color.
See more after the cut!
We met in law school, in our first semester classes. It wasn’t until the winter of our first year that one of our friends set us up. We both knew pretty soon after that we’d found “the one”…but we had to get through the rest of law school and the Bar Exam before I’d let John propose! John proposed four days after the bar exam (on his mother’s birthday) on a beach on St. John in the US Virgin Islands. We were on a vacation with my family. He proposed when we were walking on the beach. His proposal, which included three different rings, was perfect :) We then got to celebrate with my family that evening.
We had three of our friends from law school read at the ceremony. One read a Bible verse that we chose to represent what we wanted from our marriage. The other two read Mark Twain quotes that captured our idea of love and marriage. The best moment of the wedding day was seeing John for the first time and having a moment, just the two of us. Everything was so hectic leading up to the wedding, that it was nice to just have a couple minutes to ourselves and to just enjoy each other’s company. There are so many other wonderful moments during the day – seeing old friends, getting ready with my favorite ladies, and numerous others. But those moments John and I shared before the ceremony were my favorite!
