Today’s favor vendor interview is with Denise of 2ChicNails, a company specializing in customizable bridal nail polish! Enjoy:
Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.
My name is Denise Wash. After 18 years in marketing for the bridal apparel business I started a nail polish line offering nail polish in the top wedding colors, with personalized labels for brides and bridesmaids. We just started selling online about 6 months ago.

How did you get into the business?
I spend many Saturday afternoons at nail salons and on the pedicure chair. One time, when I was with a fellow wedding business friend, we started discussing how brides really want everything to be coordinated for their wedding and that it would be nice if a company would match up nail colors for them. Next thing you know, that’s exactly what I am doing. I found a lab to work with that could formulate rich, long lasting and quick drying nail color that’s 5 free: no formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, camphor, toluene or Dibutyl phthalate. I spent a lot of time figuring out the colors I wanted to match and getting them right. I surveyed about 1000 brides-to-be to determine which colors they felt were the most important and the brands they were considering. Based on this I focused my colors on David’s Bridal’s and Alfred Angelo’s top colors. So, for example, if you are wearing dresses in the color Begonia from David’s, you can choose my Chic Begonia nail polish to go with them. Pretty simple, right?
Did you know that 63% of brides intend to personally wear their wedding color on their fingernails, toe nails or both, on the day of their wedding? 88% of brides want their bridal party to wear matching nail polish! From years of working with brides, I know that they like personalization to make their day, their favors and every element of their wedding unique. We offer personalized labeling for all of our polish. We love when a bride wants the photo of herself and her man on the bottle. That’s really fun and makes a fantastic keepsake. Bridal parties and moms love our nail polish as a bridal shower favor or “hen party” gift. They typically include the wedding date and the name of the bride and groom on the label. I love this idea because everyone who attended the shower can wear the bride’s wedding color on their nails when they come to the wedding. We also do Bat Mitzvahs, Sweet 16 parties, Spa parties, birthdays and other events.
What’s your favorite part of the job?
I love color – always have — so creating and naming colors is the best part. I also just like that this is my own company and I can follow my own instincts and be creative. I learned to build a website – which I had never personally done before. I always had a staff member to do that sort of thing for me. Now I’m having fun learning new things and meeting new people.
If you could pick one unique product or service offering, which would be your favorite, and why?
My personal favorite color in my line is Midas. I love the way this polish covers – it is very luxurious and stays on forever. I also really like the color… it goes great with everything so I wear it A LOT. But I do try all of my colors. Today I am wearing Chic Smoke. It looks awesome with my grey outfit. I received so many comments about it that this might be my next go-to color.
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to others just getting started in your field?
Keep your ears open for ideas from everyone you meet. I never thought about making nail polish from sororities until someone suggested it. Now I have the official license for 16 of the biggest sororities.
What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?
I love the theater, live performance of any kind, art, yoga and TRX. I volunteer every week for several hours. It makes me happy!
Any great stories from working with a client?
A mother of a bride from Kansas City called me in a panic because she was picking up her MOB dress at a bridal shop called Natalie M and wanted to match her nail polish to her dress for the wedding just 5 days away. She was so sweet and so happy that I had the perfect color to match her dress from Alfred Angelo’s collection. The bridal shop gets a high five from me and the customer for making mom’s outfit complete.
The grandmother of Leah Travino was hosting a spa bridal shower for her grand daughter. After several back and forth design and nail polish 700 color conversations, we finally settled on a pretty butterfly label and I shipped 50 bottles of Leah’s polish about a week before the party. Leah’s grandmother loved it so much that she invited me to the shower. Of course I never pass up a spa opportunity so I went and had a fantastic time. Leah and her now husband Tito were so much fun and have remained friends ever since.
What makes you different from others in your field?
2ChicNails is the only nail polish created for brides and the only brand that custom labels nail polish personalized for the person who buys it! Also, it is made in the USA, 5 free, not tested on animals and packed with girl-power — we are a completely female-owned and operated business.
Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?
The trend I would leave behind is less about brides and more about grooms. Forget about the long tie. Wear a bow tie with a vest or a cummerbund. Think James Bond sophistication. Leave that long tie at the prom!
What tips or advice can you give to couples who are in the midst of planning their big day?
Enjoy the ride. Planning can be stressful but it is actually a lot of fun when you finally have a chance to look back on it. Create the day the way you want it. There really are no rules. And of course be sure your nails look spectacular throughout your engagement. Everyone will be looking at your ring and of course your nails.
