Today’s stationer interview is with the talented Mickenzie of YellowBrick Graphics based in Kansas City, MO! Enjoy:
How did you get started doing wedding invitations?
After completing my degree in Advertising, I wanted to pursue a career as a Graphic Designer. My husband and I moved to Alabama shortly after I finished school, and in the midst of meeting wonderful new friends in a new home, I was asked to design a wedding invitation. I enjoyed the experience so much that I continued on the journey and started YellowBrick. After awhile, my husband joined the team and we love creating beautiful wedding invitations for our lovely clients!

What is your favorite color combination?
My favorite color combination varies each day. I am always finding new palettes to fall in love with. Currently, I swoon over palettes comprised of peachy pink, gold, and wine shades.
What is the most unique invitation you have designed?
Last year, one of my very dear friends was married in Las Vegas, followed by a reception in Kansas City. For the Las Vegas ceremony, we created suitcase box invitations with playing cards as the wedding invitation, and wording printed on five cards total. We tied these with twine and a brass key. In the box, we included two red dice and wrapped the entire package with kraft paper for mailing. For the reception, we created a stunning monogram suite with vintage lettering and backed the invitation with two of her wedding colors. These were sent in kraft envelopes. The entire suite was stunning and truly embraced her vintage Vegas theme. Not only was the invitation my favorite, it was a joy to create them for such a dear friend.
Do you have a favorite typeface?
Like color palettes, my favorite fonts change daily. My most recent favorite is King Bloser. This elegant font brings so much life to simple and classic invitations.
What is the most bizarre request you have received?
We haven’t received too many bizarre requests. We did have a few clients who wanted to mix and match an invitation design, a response design, and a monogram design all from different suites for their mismatched wedding. This was a new request for us but the end result was beautiful.
Ampersand or the word “and?”
Depends on the font, though it is hard to beat a beautiful ampersand.
Any advice for brides?
I suggest getting a custom designed invitation. While we do offer templates as well, the most beautiful invitations are the ones where the couple has worked with us to create a unique invitation that truly represents their style and vision.
Do you offer more than just stationery?
Always! Most of our non-stationery items are on a custom basis but we are always open to create wonderful new products inspired by our amazing clients.
