Today’s wedding florist interview is with Angie of Posh Floral Designs, based in Dallas, TX! Enjoy:
Tell us about yourself and your company.
I am a florist in Dallas. I love all things Dallas. We have some of the best restaurants, shopping and of course the best florist. I have always loved all things design whether it was styling clothes for events or styling flowers for weddings being creative is who I am. I love seeing a floral design that I have dreamed about come to life.
How did you get into wedding florals?
I studied floral design in college at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX and my last semester before I graduated at A&M I had some friends who were getting married and they asked me to do their wedding flowers. After that wedding, friends and friends of friends asked me to do their flowers and now the rest is history!
What is your favorite part about being a florist?
My favorite part about being a florist are the special relationships I have with my clients. Getting to know each client, gives me the ability to be creative and uniquely personal in my floral designs.
Any great stories from working with a client?
Working with clients/brides there are so many great stories. I think making memories together with the client is apart of the Posh Floral experience. I want to be friends with my clients so that we can be open and honest as well as laugh a lot through the planning process. One of my favorite stories is when one of my brides came into my studio just to talk about life.
What is your favorite flower and why?
A favorite flower? Really?! I have so many! Flowers are like children to me…you can’t tell your fave or someone is going to get upset. If I have to pick I am in love with Stock right now. I love the fragrance and the texture it brings to any arrangement.
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding florists just getting started?
The biggest lesson I have learned is that you must truly have a passion for being a floral designer because when things get hard your heart will push you forward or you will give up.
What are you favorite trends when it comes to wedding flowers?
My favorite trend is the garden look. It’s fresh and classic. It’s a style that will be seen forever and it not be dated at all. I am a big fan of traditional elegant floral designs too.
What tips or advice can you give to couples who are ordering their wedding flowers?
I think the best advice to give to couples is to find a florist you trust. Make sure you trust the vision they have for your day as well as their pricing. For pricing, know that flowers are a luxury as well as perishable so they aren’t cheap. Thus when you talk pricing with a florist know that you are paying not just for the flowers but for the design that has been created, the assembly of the design and the delivery of the designs.
