We hopped “across the pond” for today’s interview with Alessia from Idea Handmade Cards. Her shop name truly says it all, as each and every piece of her stationery has a real handmade touch. Thank you Alessia, it was so nice to learn more about you and see more of your beautifully crafted designs.
1. How did you get started doing wedding invitations?
I am studying graphic design and since I was very young I have been creating handmade folders, boxes and any kind of decorated packages to get that wow effect. I have been using this philosophy while at the university and pretty much my whole life…
I just love to handcraft special cards and experiment with new materials– so one day, just like that– I thought how fun would be to turn my passion into a business? And that’s exactly what happened.
Learn more about Alessia and see her work after the jump…
2. What is your favorite color combination?
Gold and white. Sorry, not very original on that, I know!
3. What is the most unique invitation you have designed?
It’s hard to say, usually it’s the last one I have designed. It’s funny but every invitation
seems more beautiful than the previous one, I just love my job!
4. Do you have a favorite typeface?
Generally Century Gothic, which in fact I use for my brand. For wedding invitations, I like Honey Script– not too formal but still elegant. However, I am also a graphic designer so I always try to discover new fonts!
5. What is the most bizarre request you have received?
Nothing too weird as of now, but I don’t get impressed by strange requests so easily.
6. Ampersand or the word “and?”
7. Any advice for brides?
I would say order a few sample cards and then decide which invitation suits the most your taste. I own an online business, but I do understand the need of actually seeing and touching the card before making a decision. I really believe in my handmade invitations and I am sure that once you get a sample you will just love it!
Also, be sure to get a nice packaging along with the invitation, it does make the difference!
8. Do you offer more than just stationery?
Yes, my website contains a shop section with a wide range of materials for arts and crafts.
I also offer website design at a very affordable price for couples ordering their wedding
stationery, so they can get their wedding website as well.
