Today’s interview is with wedding Dj Anchor of Armed With Harmony Music Services, based in Saskatchewan, Canada! Enjoy:
Tell us about yourself and how you started.
I am a music nerd at heart and that insatiable knowledge for music and music history has served me well into my 16+ year dj career. I was able to find and train some amazing veteran and new djs to the standard I wanted to see all DJ’s be held to. We then expanded from Saskatoon DJs to, Saskatoon Photo Booths, Lighting, Audio Visual, Games Packages and Event Production.

What do you love about being a DJ?
I love music! It’s also an adrenalin rush and knowing that you can play such an important part in the most important moments in people’s lives. Weddings, Grads, Anniversaries and 1st dates nightclub events.
What makes you different from other DJs?
I have been blessed to be able to have such a vast experience in the entertainment industry which I use all my skills to form one complete performance. I was radio DJ for 10+ years (on air, music director and mixshow/live to air dj) I still am a nightclub dj 16+ years. I have DJ’ed for numerous sports teams currently the Saskatchewan Rush and Owner/Operator of a mobile DJ company with 25+ DJs that covers Audio Visual, Lighting, Photo Booths and event planner.
I am also a Video DJ & Audio/Video editor which brings my shows to life, along with some cool Co2 Cannon’s. We have a great team of 25 DJs with the most experience in Saskatoon as our DJ play many events per week not just weddings, it keeps us fresh and experienced in all aspect of the entertainment industry.
What’s the most unique wedding you’ve ever DJ’d for?
I was flown to Banff Springs Hotel after a client seen me perform locally and though I was worth the 3 hour flight to make their wedding special. The venue was a 100+ year old castle and was stunning!
What is the most challenging part of your job?
Organization and Expectations. We work hard to help people plan their perfect day and we hold ourselves to a very high standard. It’s your wedding day your expectations should be high. We only get 1 shot at making it perfect so we focus hard on finding out the details that will make it magical.
What’s your favorite song? Your least favorite song?
Most Fav: Songs that have family traditions! Sometimes I have heard of them, sometimes couples send them to me. Your wedding day is about YOU and your guests, I love when a family hears that song and everyone knows that it’s “their” song and gets out to celebrate.
Least Fav: Anything cliché, there is so much great music, pick something that YOU like, not what people tell you to like.
Do you have any advice for wedding DJs just starting out?
Have fun! Being a Saskatoon Wedding is an amazing job and great way to meet people, but it is still a job, treat is as one and people will treat you with professionalism. Learn and love all kinds of music, programming a set is the #1 ingredient to a successful dance.
What are some things couples should look for when looking for a DJ?
There are 3 major things to check for first. If they are a legal company they should have the following:
- CDJA – Canadian DJ Association Licence + Liability Insurance
- Local Business Licence
- Connect/ALVA Music Licence.
After that, look for a few key things:
- Great reputation and online reviews
- Do they offer the packages/products and services you want/need
- Are they willing to be transparent with you and answer all your questions/help with the process
- Do you genuinely like them
Everything else like song selection, timelines etc can be worked though with ease if the prior falls into place.
