How did you get into the business?

I began working as a musician at the age of 17 and along with my original projects, spent over 10 years performing at weddings and events. With a side-line of web design to pay the bills, the agency seemed like the logical step forward to incorporate all of my passions into one.

What’s your favorite part of the job?

I gave up the performing side of the business a few years back and that allowed me to really focus on the agency. I love it when the office is buzzing and great feedback is coming in about the weekend’s events. Give me a cup of coffee in one hand and a bunch of web stats in the other and that’s me sorted.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to others just getting started in your field?

I think many musicians under-estimate the amount of effort required to make  a wedding band work. It’s such a competitive industry and you really do have to run your band like a business – that means investing in yourself in every area, from your photos and video, through to your sound equipment.

What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?

As well as the business I also have two young children who take up most of my time. At 18 months old and 3 years old, they’re loads of fun and don’t give me a minute’s rest!

Any great stories from working with a client?

I once performed with a drummer and he told me a great little anecdote about a wedding they played at. The bride had apparently asked the band to learn their first dance which was the Robin Hood theme tune; of course, as the first few bars started up it was soon apparent from the bride’s expression that she did of course mean Brian Adams’, ‘Every I Do I do it For You’ from the movie ‘Robin Hood, Price of Thieves’ – not the actual theme tune to Robin Hood… “Robin Hood, Robin Hood, Riding through the Glen”!

What makes you different from others in your field?

We’re an agency with a foundation in the music industry, everyone that works here is a musician at their core and so understands the make-up of a great sound and what’s required to really make an event a success. We’re also extremely particular about who we work with where as I sometimes feel other agencies are happy to make up the numbers.

Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?

I love the festival style weddings that are all the rage these days, it creates such a positive, laid back atmosphere, and of course, it’s all about the live music!

What tips or advice can you give to couples who are in the midst of planning their big day?

Take it in your stride, some couples can get so worked up about the ins and outs of their wedding day that they forget to actually enjoy the whole process. Planning can be tricky but if you have good suppliers on board, they’ll be happy to advise you every step of the way. If you’re looking for more info about the band then our FAQs page or blog has lots of answers to the most common queries.
