Hello lovelies! Today’s wedding planner interview is with Renae of Beauty and the Details based in New York, NY! Enjoy:

Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.

Hi! I’m Renae! A South Florida girl at heart, but New York is my home; my path to love is how I got here. I LOVE love, and I LOVE weddings, and nothing’s sweeter than when two people who love each other get married! But before that happens, there are many details that need tending to, and that’s where I come in! My experience (as planner, project manager and former bride) enables me to take a couple’s vision, pair it with multiple variables, and bring it to life. Timelines, budgets, and vendors are my life. I may be a little obsessed with organization; which is a good thing! I’m passionate about coordinating all the details that create a beautiful day!

How did you get into wedding planning?

I started off in event planning 10 years ago and it led to my career in Project and Resource Management. While I loved helping friends and family plan their special events, it wasn’t until MY wedding that I was inspired to start Beauty & the Details!

What’s your favorite part of the job?

I’m extremely hard on myself and am constantly evaluating how I could have handled a situation, i.e. vendor meet and greet, conference calls or walk-throughs. But I love it when my clients say how happy they are with me and how extremely helpful I’ve been, I want to cry (happy tears of course). So, it brings me joy in knowing that my clients are happy.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding planners just getting started?

Running Beauty and the Details while working a full time job has been a balancing act, to say the least. But a seasoned planner in my town advised me to not take on too much and keep my overhead low in these first years. So I’m heeding that carefully and would advise new planners to do the same. I know that you always want to say YES to every shoot and every inquiry that comes in because after all you’re ‘Building Your Portfolio’. But trust me, start setting limits for yourself now. Your business will grow and prosper in time.

What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?

I’m a resource manager by day, so between my day job and Beauty and the Details, I don’t have time for anything else. In my downtime, my husband and I are doing something outdoorsy, be it bird watching or taking a light hike in the woods.

Any great stories from working with a client?

I’d helped out with some light planning on a recent party. But I’d gone above and beyond planning and created the invitations and signage for the party. At the end of the event, someone said, ‘you truly have a gift for this’ and my heart smiled. To me, that was validation that I’m on the right track and that my passion and love for Beauty and the Details is shining through my work.

What is your current favorite color combination?

I’m a Blush pink, ivory and champagne gold kind of woman (he he)!

Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?

I love anything that’s outside of the box, i.e. garlands of greenery in place of centerpieces, or hanging bouquets to add to the décor.

What tips or advice can you give to couples who are in the midst of planning?

On the day of your wedding, take a few moments to step back and soak it all in. The day will go by FAST, so you should really be mindful and enjoy as many moments as you can.
