How did you get into wedding planning?
For me it started about 11 years ago after getting out of the service. I decided that I’d rather see the lighter side of life after having been exposed to so much of the dark. My girlfriend had an event planning business and offered to take me on and teach me the business and it just grew from that.
What’s your favorite part of the job?
My favorite part of the job is seeing the happiness on the faces of the clients when their wedding turns out just how they wanted it.
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding planners just getting started?
Learn everything that you possibly can from someone who knows the business!! There’s so much more to it than people realize and having a mentor really helps.
What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?
When I have free time, which isn’t often, I spend it traveling the world. That’s definitely my favorite thing to do with spare time.
Any great stories from working with a client?
The best client stories are always the ones that involve people falling in love young, in high school or something and then being parted for various reasons and then finding each other by chance later on. Our last wedding was just one of these. They had dated in high school and then he went into the service and she went to California for college. Next thing they knew, he got stationed in San Diego and he looked her up. 5 years later, they are married! Those are the best stories because they just warm your heart and make people believe in love.
What is your current favorite color combination?
I am really into the rich jewel tones of the fall season. I love this time of year because the color palettes can be so rich and beautiful. Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind? Tiffany blue! I really feel like that color has run it’s course and it is time to move on!
What tips or advice can you give to couples who are in the midst of planning?
Hire a good planner! We pay for ourselves in savings and stress reduction!
