Today’s wedding planner interview is with Racquel of St. Germain Event Group,  based in Miami, Florida. Enjoy!

Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.

My name is Racquel and I am the owner of St Germain Event Group. We are a full service planning and event design company based in the heart of Miami, FL. We offer custom event design, in-house florals and of course, wedding planning.

I started this business about 5 years ago at the tender age of 21. No money, No Plan and a whole lot of dreams. It wasn’t until I had done my first bridal show that I had noticed I had a knack for florals after creating the pieces for my booth. With a little more refinement of this skill, I had become really good and decided to add the service. Added more people to my team and you have a one stop shop for planning, decor and floral design.

See more after the cut!

How did you get into wedding planning?

Growing up my mother had planned many events. Though she was not an event planner, people would commission her to plan their events. I was practically forced into being the helper. You don’t get to talk back to mom! When she asks you to do something you do it! Lo and behold, I ended up loving it. I specifically remember her taking me to assist her with a beached themed wedding. I was so enthralled by how fast paced it was. I loved how the room went from ‘blah’ to ‘BOOM’. My twelve year old self felt like it was Christmas all over again. It actually wasn’t until I met my fiance (that’s right, the wedding planner is planning her own wedding) that I started pursuing the business. He brought out that love and passion that had been suppressed…here I am now planning and designing weddings. I love every minute!

What’s your favorite part of the job?

The look on the couple’s face when they see the reception space…It’s priceless. In that moment I know that I helped them achieve their vision.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding planners just getting started?

This is important: find vendors that you can work well with and that can communicate the vision well. Without the proper communication- visually, auditorily and physically- your event will be a bust. Communicating goes far beyond just talking. It is your job to make sure the event not only goes smooth but making sure the vision comes together in one piece.

What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?

I love to cook. I have been cooking since I was about 10 years old. A few women in my family taught me all the tricks I know. Because my background is so diverse my recipes tend to have influences of my background. My Haitian grandmother used a lot of herbs and spices- thyme, parsley, cloves- in her recipes. My Bahamian grandmother used tons of seafood based recipes, sauces and stews. Combine that with the recipes of my Aunt who is a southern cook. So you can say that my food is popping with flavor!

Any great stories from working with a client?

I have so many that it would be unfair to pick just one. Everyone whom I have had the pleasure of working with has been so awesome.

What is your current favorite color combination?

Gold is my thing. I love whites and golds with a touch of light jade or blush. However, Rose gold is really starting to make its way to my heart.

Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?

To be honest, I can no longer fathom flower crowns. Can we ditch that in 2017?

What tips or advice can you give to couples who are in the midst of planning?

It is so easy to get to engulfed in the details of planning your big day. But keep in mind why you are planning your wedding. Do not lose sight of the reason. You are planning a special day that serves an introduction to the rest of your life as a couple together as one in front of the people you love.
