Today’s wedding stationer interview is with La Toya of Soirée Custom Paper & Co., based in Arlington, Virginia! Enjoy:
How did you get started doing wedding invitations?
While searching for my own wedding invitations in 2009 I just couldn’t find anything that I felt suited us. So I decided to design them myself – it helped having a background in interior design and a basic knowledge of Adobe Illustrator. After finishing them and mailing them out – I started receiving requests from friends to design wedding and social invitations and stationery for them and Soirée Custom Paper Co. was started.

What is your favorite color combination?
So many……I love a classic and timeless black and white invitation as well as classic navy and white. Blush and rose gold is starting to become one of my favorites as well.
What is the most unique invitation you have designed?
A petalfold 1st birthday invitation containing photos for all 4 of the petals (cut to the petals specifications). I wasn’t too sure that it could be done because I wasn’t sure that the fit would be perfect for each petal, but it worked out beautifully!
Do you have a favorite typeface?
Burgues and Poem Script are my favorite script typefaces.
What is the most bizarre request you have received?
A request for 300 programs containing 12 pages front and back, with a vellum cover and a raffia closure…..needed in one week.
Ampersand or the word “and?”
Ampersand – always.
Any advice for brides?
Take a moment to enjoy the day. You plan for months – sometimes for a year or more – for this day and it goes by so quickly. Please remember to take a moment just “to take it all in.”
Do you offer more than just stationery?
I’m also an interior designer and an event planner – a lot of my stationery clients request my services for day of wedding coordination and design suggestions for blending their new homes after the wedding.
