Welcome to our first stationer interview! We have enjoyed these so much, and have received so much great feedback from our vendors and readers, that we are spreading the love to all our directories. Today we caught up with Rachel of  Rock Paper Scissors for an interview. Thank you Rachel for being our guinea pig!

1. How did you get started doing wedding invitations?

I went to Art Center and have a degree in advertising but we had to move to New Mexico for 2 years right after I graduated because the Air Force paid for my husband’s dental school education. I did our wedding invitations and then everyone started to hire me to do theirs. It took off from there!

2. What is your favorite color combination?

Oooh, that’s hard. It depends on the mood I’m in! I love yellow+light gray+white+dark charcoal, bright magenta+white+silver, eggplant+chocolate+light lavender,  teal+gold+chartreuse, coral+sand+cobalt

3. What is the most unique invitation you have designed?

I’ve done some crazy stuff: a smores kit save the date, a spy bar mitzvah invitation with real spy gear the guest had to play with to get the event clues, a wedding ring invitation that had a paper weight ring and a custom hot pink ring box made just for it.

4. Do you have a favorite typeface?

I LOVE the Caslon family and Burgues

5. What is the most bizarre request you have received?

Can I have live dragonflies in the escort card boxes….the answer was no (I couldn’t find them) so we did butterflies….don’t worry PETA it was fine!

6. Ampersand or the word “and?”

I use both but in most cases “and”

7. Any advice for brides?

Make the invitations and save the dates match the event….they are the guests 1st impression.

8. Do you offer more than just stationery?

Yes, favors, custom placemats, custom napkins, gift boxes
