How did you get started doing wedding invitations?

I’m a graphic designer and I started doing some wedding invites for some friends of mine. They received great responses and people suggested to me that I should do more about it. After a few invite sets I started to think about building a website to show my work, and this is how I started Pepper & Joy.

Get to Know a Wedding Stationer: Sweet Stuff Designs

Today’s Wedding Stationer interview is with Diana from Sweet Stuff Designs based in Levittown, PA! Enjoy:

How did you get started doing wedding invitations?

I started my business in 2004 after my own wedding. I’ve always loved doing favors and party goods so that is what I started out with. I added invitations on in 2006 after seeing the trend of pocket fold invitations on the rise, and a need for affordable options. While I’m not a graphic designer, I’ve spent 10 years in printing and production in the book publishing industry which ties into my love of paper and printing.

Today’s wedding stationer interview is with Agnes of Blossom Accents, based in Cleveland, OH! Enjoy:

How did you get started doing wedding invitations?

Like some other stationers, I made my own wedding invitations. But it wasn’t till a few years later when I thought it would be awesome and gratifying to sell some of my artwork. I love flowers and they are a big part of weddings. So one idea led to another and Blossom Accents-Artistic and Handmade Floral Stationery took off in 2008. I feel so happy to know there are people out there that appreciate and love what I create.

Get to Know a Wedding Stationer: Metal Doily Press (3)

We’re here with Monique of Metal Doily Press, based in Los Angeles! What beautiful stationery designs — enjoy!

How did you get started doing wedding invitations?

I’ve always been partial to script typefaces so the wedding world had always been a venue I’ve wanted to be a part of. My very first wedding suite was for a cousin, it was so exciting to create all the pieces of her wedding suite for her. Next up was taking a letterpress printing class, I was instantly hooked! I bought my press soon after and a few friends were nice enough to let me work on their wedding invites for them. Working on my own wedding invitations was really what pushed me to explore all paper options, pricing and techniques to get Metal Doily Press headed in the route of offering wedding invitation design and printing to others.

Get to Know a Wedding Stationer: I'll Know It When I See It (12)

Our wedding stationer interview today is with Cassie and Christine from I’ll Know It When I See It, stationers from Vancouver, BC! I’ve had the joy of meeting Cassie at a meetup I ran in Vancouver way back, and I can tell you definitively — she’s wonderful!

How did you get started doing wedding invitations?

It began with us meeting in design school and realizing we were two peas in the same design pod. Aside from common design aesthetics, we also shared a similar cheeky sense of humor and occasional sarcastic point of view on everyday life. We started with a humble blog and designing greeting cards.

When Christine got engaged, it became clear that the vast collection of mediocre invitations already on the market weren’t going to do. With so much emphasis on the uniqueness and personality of the couple for all the other aspects of the wedding day, why settle for invitations that seemed generic and made without care? This first hand experience became the driving force behind creating invitations for all the other soon-to-be-marrieds demanding, and deserving, something better than typical. From there it’s just grown into having the great fortune of working with amazing clients who really value well-designed wedding stationery.

Today’s wedding stationer interview is with Megan of Ruby the Fox Design, based in Washington, DC! Enjoy:

How did you get started doing wedding invitations?

I started doing wedding invitations after a stint in a invitation + event design shop in Bethesda, Maryland (Creative Parties) after college. I then started Ruby the Fox in April of 2009 with a push from my now-husband, and the rest, as they say, is history!

Get to Know a Wedding Stationer: Creative Outlook Designs

Today’s wedding stationer interview is with Rochelle of Creative Outlook Designs, based in New York, NY! Enjoy:

How did you get started doing wedding invitations?

As a graphic design business, my focus was on graphic and web design for small businesses. However, it wasn’t until I did my brother’s invitations 10 years ago that I saw a future and a market at doing stationery for weddings. Everyone loved my brother’s invitation that I started getting referrals almost instantly. The business grew from an overwhelming request from brides wanting custom invitations and stationery.

Get to Know a Wedding Stationer: Wicked Bride StationeryPhoto Credit: Katie Noble Photography

You may remember Wicked Bride Stationery from this featured invitation post (or this one). Today, we’re happy to get to know Erica, the wicked talented woman behind the scenes. Enjoy!

How did you get started doing wedding invitations?

I was working as an Art Director running the Publications department of a small Boston college when all of my friends started getting married. Since I’m creative, I started getting a bunch of requests for custom invitation designs. Then it came time to design invitations for my own wedding and our guests’ response to them was phenomenal. My husband, family, and good friends encouraged me to dip my toe into the stationery world – and after our wedding was featured in the Knot Magazine, requests from the public started coming in. It wasn’t long before Wicked Bride was born!
