Today’s wedding blogger interview is with Jenn Hallak, the owner and editor of The Overwhelmed Bride! Enjoy:
How did you get into blogging?
I was between jobs and looking for something to do until I found the perfect new position. I am the kind of person that always has to be doing something, so I decided to start a blog! I really didn’t think of promoting it or that it had any potential to become a full-time career for me, but it was really just for fun! And then in the first couple of months of writing about what I knew best, weddings, I began to gain a following without even trying and fell in love with blogging! So I then decided to stop my job search and make this my full-time career!

Where are you located?
I live and work in Woodland Hills, CA – which is in Los Angeles!
What sites or blog do you visit daily?
I find myself on Pinterest the most because not only do I get so much photo inspiration for my brides on there, but clicking through to amazing articles through Pinterest is what I love! And of course, I am on Instagram and Facebook a TON, as that is where I give my followers my favorite inspirational ideas! I don’t have too much time for reading other blogs but one of my favorites is She Is More, whose editor is a past bride of mine!
When you aren’t blogging, what are you doing?
When I am not blogging, I am a wife and a mom…to a puppy, that is. Working from home and having the flexibility to create my own schedule allows me to take care of the regular household duties – cooking, cleaning, errands, etc. and allows my puppy to have a mommy at home during the day! And on the weekends, it is really about spending time with our family and friends and each other!
Are you a full-time blogger?
Yes! I am a full-time blogger! Well, sort of. Since I started out as a wedding coordinator, I continue to book weddings on the side for occasional weekends. I really love keeping up with the current trends and keeping myself fully immersed in the industry allows me to continue gaining experience and tips for my readers!
What do you look for in wedding submissions? Do you have any tips for photographer’s who would like to be featured on your blog?
The Overwhelmed Bride is quite a bit different from most wedding blogs out there. While most wedding blogs provide brides with beautiful inspiration from past weddings and styled shoots, we really focus on the step-by-step planning, and help brides stay stress-free while planning! While we do accept wedding submissions, we prefer to feature the every-day bride, rather than expensive weddings, because that is what provides our brides with the best inspiration for what is doable on an average budget. Our favorite submissions are from brides who have followed us through planning!
And for photographers and other wedding professionals, we offer them a chance to submit articles to show off their expertise and their work. More information can be found on the “Vendor Opportunities” tab on the footer of our site!
What is your favorite wedding trend?
It’s not exactly a trend, but the weddings I love the most are the ones with beautiful personal touches. I’ve said it many times while blogging but I cannot stand when a couple has a wedding that is totally the opposite of who they are, just because that is the current trend. If you’ve never worn cowboy boots in your life, why would you wear them on your wedding day? When a guest can show up to a wedding and say, “This is totally them!” then that is a perfect wedding in my eyes!
What wedding trend are you ready to see left behind?
You know, there really isn’t a trend I can think of that I don’t like. Maybe not every trend is one I would use on my wedding day, but every wedding is unique and a wedding should reflect the couple. As long as it does that, I love it!
What is your favorite blog post on your site?
Hmmm that is a tough one! If I had to choose one, it would be our post called “What Is A Wedding?” It really relates to every bride out there and has a calming factor that every bride needs! I don’t want to give too much away so just head on over and take a look.
Best advice for brides?
My best advice for a bride-to-be is to just enjoy your day. Something will go wrong. Always. That’s just how it goes! It may be small or it may be big but at the end of the day, if you said “I Do” to the person you want to spend the rest of your life with, then your day was a success! Forget about impressing everyone and forget about the details because the marriage is what a wedding is all about!
