Today we’re excited to bring you this interview with Richard of Bloominous, based in Los Angeles, CA! Here’s Richard:
Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.
I’m Richard, the founder and CEO of Bloominous, a national wedding floral brand that delivers beautiful designs at prices 50% below typical wedding flower costs. We offer three different types of services:
Our DIY Kit Service is our original and flagship product. We have over 24 different floral collections, fully customizable to make it personalized for you. We ship it to you overnight in refrigerated boxes and it includes everything you need to recreate what you see on our website. All the flowers are super fresh (we source directly from growers), and we inspect, clean, and pre-portion every flower according to your recipe. We even include pins, ribbons, and vases so it’s truly a one-stop-shop. We time-tested each arrangement to be made between 10-20 minutes. Our method is foolproof, and we’ve delivered thousands and thousands of weddings to happy brides all over.

Our second product is our Pre-Made Wedding Flowers, and this is for the bride who doesn’t want to DIY at all. We developed special refrigerated packaging that overnights all your arrangements already pre-made. Once you receive it, just place it in water (no fridge needed). Everything is ready-to-go. Just place your centerpieces on the table, give your bouquets and boutonnieres to your wedding party, and walk down the aisle with your bridal bouquet… it’s that simple. We have over 1,000 different arrangements on our website spanning a variety of styles and colors that you can choose from and our designers are here to help you if you get stuck.
Our final product, which is only available in Los Angeles for now, is our Full-Service product. We will deliver all your arrangements and set up your venue with flowers. We’re very excited about rolling this product out to more cities later this year, because brides will get beautiful arrangements without lifting a finger all at a cost savings.
How did you get into the business?
I used to head up the largest cut-flower import operation for a large floral brand in the US. We partnered with hundreds of farms from around the world delivering exceptional and hard-to-get flowers to over 10,000 florists nationwide.
During this time, I also got engaged! During our wedding planning process, I was shocked to learn how expensive wedding flowers were. There were only 2 ways to get flowers: We could go to a florist which would have cost me over $4K, or we can DIY our own flowers and save.
But DIY came with its own challenges. You had to do endless research on Pinterest to find a good design. Then you have to figure out what flowers they were. Then you had to get the flowers. It just seemed like a lot of work, and I’m sure we were not alone in this. That’s how the Bloominous movement started.
What’s your favorite part of the job?
My favorite part of the job is knowing what we do matters for our clients and for our team. It’s an incredible privilege to work in the wedding industry. Delighting our clients who entrusted us to serve them on their special day makes this all worth it. It’s a mission the entire Bloominous team takes on personally, and that’s a beautiful thing because it unleashes so much untapped potential from each team member that goes beyond their primary roles. Independent thinking is something I encourage for the team, because I believe when the intentions are right, everyone wants to add value in their own special way. We should celebrate that!
If you could pick one unique product or service offering, which would be your favorite, and why?
My favorite is definitely our Full-Service Product. It’s the culmination of years of research and development into our product and market. Our goal is to deliver exceptional designs that is most
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to others just getting started in your field?
I’ll answer this question more generally as an entrepreneur, which I think can apply to any industry. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to think deeply – everyday – about value creation. If you are honestly creating value people want, then you’ll have a business that needs to exist. So many businesses out there are just chasing the latest fad, trying to make that quick buck, but typically these pursuits are short-lived. Look to create lasting impact and change the direction of industries for the better.
What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?
I enjoy trying new things. My wife always says “here we go again” when I start picking up another hobby. I got my pilot’s license over a decade ago, and still enjoy flying. Aviation has been a passion of mine ever since I was a little kid, and it has been a consistent source of joy.
I picked up drumming, but I’m not very good at it. I secretly want to play in a small jazz band at a restaurant or coffee shop. I enjoy surfing and swimming, and recently, I’ve been learning about raising backyard chickens.
Any great stories from working with a client?
I remember this one client who found us and shared they couldn’t believe there was such a service. She told me she had been debating with her family over the budget and whether or not they can even have wedding flowers. This story came early on in the company when I was handling every customer inquiry – but it was a turning point for me because I realized why we are here. We’re here to celebrate love and make it possible for everyone to have beautiful wedding flowers.
What makes you different from others in your field?
The wedding industry is supported by very interesting people and vendors. Everyone brings their own unique style and character – that’s what makes it so great!
I think for us, we’re the first national floral brand that focuses on wedding flowers. Our designs are created by celebrity florists, so no matter where you live, you will get access to top designs that are on-trend. Our designers would typically charge over $10K for a single wedding.
Because of the number of weddings we do every week, we source from the top growers from around the world, getting access to hard-to-find flowers that are fresher than typical wholesale. And all of this at prices that are below-market so we can pass those savings on to you. With thousands and thousands of weddings under our belt, the dollars we have saved brides in just 2 years is something we are really proud of.
Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?
We pass no judgement on trends. We believe every bride is unique, and as long as they love it, it shouldn’t matter if it is on-trend or off-trend.
Most of our collections are on-trend, but we will play with past trends in new ways as well. For instance, we’re using carnations (which has always been a step-child flower) in new ways like placing them on top of an ice cream cone.
What tips or advice can you give to couples who are in the midst of planning their big day?
We hope you don’t stress out about wedding planning. Most of your guests just want to be with you on your special day – remember that. Practically, if I had to give one piece of advice, I would suggest starting on your honeymoon a few days after the wedding so you have time to rest before going on your adventure.
