Today’s photographer interview is with Hannah of Hannah McClune Photography based in Berkshire, UK! Enjoy:
Tell us a bit about yourself and your company
Hi there, I’m Hannah. I am a modern wedding photographer based in Berkshire, UK and I create romantic and relaxed photographs. My business is all about people in love. Utterly soppy, but that’s really what it comes down to. The photos always reflect people enjoying being with those that mean the very most to them.

How did you get into wedding photography?
I am going into my fourth year of business now. After studying photography, investing in gear and most importantly building a strong portfolio, I launched my business. It is my full time job and continues to keep growing as over 85% of my business is from happy client referrals.
What is your favorite part of the wedding day to capture?
Wow, that is a tough question. I really don’t think I can answer with one part! Being involved as the bride gets ready is always brilliant to document the excitement and all the emotions. That may be slightly topped by the vow exchange; I often sneakily wipe away my own tear of joy. I do really love taking time out with the newly weds for their romantic portraits. Ah, thought of another favourite – the time after the wedding breakfast, messing about with creative shots of the champagne fueled bridal party is always such fun.
What is the most awkward moment you’ve experienced while on the job?
The bride’s family all leaving hastily for the wedding and forgetting their house keys… the wedding reception was in the grounds of their house! Luckily the bride’s dad was able to break in to his own house and it made a great photo!
What is your favorite venue and why?
Farnham Castle. It is an incredibly romantic setting, the main space is light and airy with a modern feel, but attached are the old ruins and it sits at the top of the hill for dreamy sunset shots.
Nikon or Canon?
I am a pure Nikon girl. Have D800’s and adore them.
What is your dream location to shoot a wedding?
I would love to shoot a wedding on the beach in Aitutaki in the Cook Islands. It is an idyllic setting; completely unspoilt by tourism with soft white sandy beaches, warm turquoise sea – the Polynesian dream. It is where Neil and I went on our honeymoon, it may have been a mammoth journey there (via America and New Zealand on the way, then Japan on the way back) but it most certainly was worth the effort.
If you could shoot any celebrity wedding (past, present or future), who would be the lucky couple?
Grace Kelly’s, can you imagine being part of their stylishly extravagant day? Yep, I would have gladly been the Princess of Monaco’s photographer (slight flaw that it was 30 or so years before my birth).
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding photographers just getting started?
A high level of customer service is so important. Get to know people — it will help you get real expressions and have them relax in front of your camera. Happy customers generate word of mouth, which has been key to getting new clients.
What tips or advice can you give to couples who are looking to hire a photographer to cover their big day?
If you are starting to plan your wedding then your photography is likely to be one of the big choices you are considering. Unsurprisingly, I believe this decision should not be rushed – it is easy to go with the photographer your best friend had or the one your venue recommends, but be sure they match what you want, not just budget wise, but also style.
