Today’s photographer interview is with Andy of Ido Productions based in Pamplemousses, Mauritius! Enjoy:
Tell us a bit about yourself and your company
Hi! I’m Andy, the founder of Ido productions based in Mauritius, the ‘gem of the Indian Ocean.’ It’s a beautiful setting for what we do. I love nature in all its simplicity, and that is what I like to show off in my wedding photos.

How did you get into wedding photography?
I started doing video before doing professional photography. I realised that it was hard to do wedding video with photographers that didn’t care at all if you were shooting. I was always trying to find a way to make both having great footage, so I started doing photography and left the video job to my colleagues. We found the perfect match to make lovely videos and beautiful photos.
What is your favorite part of the wedding day to capture?
My favorite part of it is the posing part. I’m not talking about the formal one, I call it action posing which turns out to be very funny, natural and video guys love it. This is when you really feels the magic and the love between the couple, and when I turn clients in to good friends.
What is the most awkward moment you’ve experienced while on the job?
I had a meeting with a bride as she wanted me to be the photographer. I was really happy to document her big day and she told me that she would organise food for the crew. I was really happy about that as I did not even ask her too. On her big day while everyone was eating, her brother told me that their was food at the Canteen of the hotel for us. We went there as we were starving and the food was all crap… It was leftovers from the past days… Lesson learned: no food from the canteen ever again.
What is your favorite venue and why?
My favorite venue so far is in the South of Mauritius on a hill. I think everyone would love that venue as it is all green and has 360 degrees of awesome backdrop (sea, mountain, etc.). If you pay a visit to Mauritius, make sure you go to the South part of the island.
Nikon or Canon?
Canon, but I won’t say no to a Nikon D4S. If I have to choose, I’ll definitely take the Canon 1DC.
What is your dream location to shoot a wedding?
Mexico, Riviera Maya. Would just love to do a trash the dress there.
If you could shoot any celebrity wedding (past, present or future), who would be the lucky couple?
Hard one… hmm the Pope and his secret wife ;)
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding photographers just getting started?
Always do your best, make sure clients are 100% satisfied, be nice, humble and learn to listen. Don’t ever say you are the best and don’t ever think you are the best, even if someone told you so. Be social.
What tips or advice can you give to couples who are looking to hire a photographer to cover their big day?
Find someone you like and get along with. Don’t forget it is your special day, enjoy the most of it.
