Tell us a bit about yourself and your company

My name is Rachael Pacholko and I am the owner of Rachael Lindsy Photography. I specialize in wedding photography in the DFW metroplex. I am a graphic designer by trade and a self taught photographer. I have always been involved in the arts and just consider photography to be another artistic outlet. I jumped into it wanting to take better pictures of my two children.

How did you get into wedding photography?

I had wanted to try wedding photography, but did not want to jump in not knowing exactly what I was doing. I was following a fellow local photographer on Facebook and one day she reached out looking for a second shooter. One thing lead to another and I shot a couple weddings with her. I was quite on the fence about weddings after my second shooting and wasn’t sure if it was something I wanted to do.

It was about that time that my husband’s co-worker approached me about photographing their ultra small, intimate wedding at the botanical gardens. It was then that I fell in love with shooting weddings. I suddenly realized the creative freedom I had, and that every wedding and everyone’s love was different. I haven’t looked back. I now specialize in wedding photography.

What is your favorite part of the wedding day to capture?

I have two favorite parts. My first favorite is the getting ready shots. I love just capturing the candid moments going on and the anticipation of the bride and groom. My next favorite are the bride and groom shots. Everyone’s love is different and I love having that time alone with them on their wedding day to capture just that.

What is the most awkward moment you’ve experienced while on the job?

Okay, this is really more of an embarrassing, awkward kind of moment. I was shooting an outdoor wedding at Trinity Park. While the family stood up to pray with the bride and groom, I was backing up so I could get everyone in the frame. I was not, however, watching behind me and fell backwards over some large roots on a tree. Yikes! I was crossing my fingers that no one had noticed, but apparently people were asking my second shooter if I was okay. I was. I am certain it must have looked pretty funny though as I instinctively held both my cameras in the air so I would not land on them.

What’s the best thing you ever ate at a wedding?

Steak.

What is your favorite venue and why?

Hands down, Trinity Park in Fort Worth is my favorite! I love it because it means that their ceremony and reception will likely be outdoors — and I love to shoot outdoors! There is so much variety there for backdrops.

Nikon or Canon?

Canon, only because it was suggested to me when I started out. I could have easily gone Nikon. Both wonderful companies with fantastic products.

What is your dream location to shoot a wedding?

I’d say Bali. I love the beach and from what photographs I’ve seen, the colors look simply stunning.

If you could shoot any celebrity wedding (past, present or future), who would be the lucky couple?

I’m not much of a mainstream kind of gal, so I am not really that interested in photographing celebrities.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding photographers just getting started?

Expect the unexpected. Every wedding is different and no matter how much the day is planned out, something almost always goes awry. It’s makes things easier for yourself and your bride if you do not get stressed out about these situations and just go with the flow.
