Today’s photographer interview is with Rohan and Puja of Rohan Mishra Photography, based in Chennai, India! Enjoy:
Tell us a bit about yourself and your company
We are Rohan and Puja, a husband + wife photography duo from India. We tell the story of people in LOVE! Our passion for wedding photography is grounded in the pure joy of celebrating all the amazing and different forms of love which we get to see only in a wedding.
Being a couple gives us an edge over other photographers because we completely understand how big and important this particular event is for all couples. The amount of preparation that goes in to bringing this single day to life (particularly in the Indian society) is commendable. It is our responsibility to capture those much awaited moments in our pictures so that the couple and their loved ones can re-live these moments forever.

How did you get into wedding photography?
We love travelling — I remember those days when I had a Sony 8 MP Point and Shoot which I used to capture the beauty around.
It was then when my wife Puja sensed a keen interest in me towards photography, and finally the day came when I got my first DSLR Nikon D3100 as my birthday gift. There was a whole new world that opened for me to explore and I left no stone unturned to take it to the next level.
After getting recognition on various Nature photography related platforms, I wanted to explore people photography and thought what can be a better option than shooting a wedding.
With Puja’s experience in advertising, styling, ideation and my command over the camera and lighting techniques, we decided to blend our common interests together to take it to the next level and that’s how “Rohan Mishra Photography” was born.
As time went on, we invested in our gear – and were able to start taking up projects professionally. From there on, there was no looking back! Today we are happy to be able to say that we are the few people that follow their passion and most importantly tells the story of people in LOVE!
What is your favorite part of the wedding day to capture?
Well… the best part of the wedding day is the small photo session with the couple in between the wedding ceremony. The real magic happens in those 10 minutes!
What is the most awkward moment you’ve experienced while on the job?
I would rather call it the “toughest” moment… during the Vidai ceremony when the bride is crying leaving her first home, and we, as photographers, are jumping in her face to capture that sentimental moment.
What is your favorite venue and why?
Umaid Bhavan, Jodhpur, India – The Royal Wedding Destination
The Umaid Bhavan has a beautiful scenic view as it is located in a hilltop location overlooking the picturesque Jodhpur.
These palaces are the preference of the elite section of Indian society. These are ornate and royal palaces, which now have been transformed into wedding destinations.
Nikon or Canon?
We are the Nikon (D800) users. My gear kit usually contains: – 2 cameras, a low light lens, a wide angle lens, a telephoto lens for those candid moments and high end speedlight / flash.
What is your dream location to shoot a wedding?
Oberoi Udaivilas, Udaipur, India.
The hotel’s intricate layout of interconnecting domes and corridors reflects the layout of Udaipur itself – whose seven lakes are linked by canals. These domes and walkways are flooded with sunlight, caressed by balmy breezes and offer magnificent views of the lake and gardens.
All in all a dream destination for any photographer!
If you could shoot any celebrity wedding (past, present or future), who would be the lucky couple?
Ohh there are so many… to name one will be a little unfair. However, we would have loved to be a part of the beautiful Aishwarya Rai’s wedding (Winner of Miss World pageant, 1994).
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding photographers just getting started?
In one line: Always remember that it’s not the camera that creates the magic but the person holding it.
What tips or advice can you give to couples who are looking to hire a photographer to cover their big day?
Brides and grooms generally spend a large percentage of their wedding budget on fashion and accessories, but we all know that it would be short-lived if it is not captured in the right way at the right time. It may seem insignificant at the time, but imagine twenty years from now… that is when it would matter the most. I am sure everyone would love to show off that special day to their grandchildren!
At the end of the day… ‘You get what you pay for.’ So choose your photographer wisely to make your wedding a special one!
