Today’s planner interview is with Sarah Chancey of Chancey Charm based in Atlanta, GA! Enjoy:
Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.
After graduating with a Fine Art degree in Interior Design from the University of Georgia, I gained professional experience in a variety of creative event centered industries, such as floral design and catering. I also expanded my design aesthetic by spending a few years living in Denver and traveling along the west coast. All of my experiences culminate in my work with Chancey Charm as I bring a holistic prospective of the event industry to my work as lead designer and owner of Chancey Charm.
My use of hand-drawn renderings within the event design process is something that developed naturally and fits perfectly into the experience. Coming alongside clients and providing original design boards, which capture their vision and allow them to feel excited and confident about the journey is what drives my passion for the event industry. I have a special love for timeless, elegant designs and love incorporating unique interior furnishings and lighting into every event I work on.

How did you get into wedding planning?
As corny as it may sound, my wedding day was the best day of my life. The peace and joy I felt on my wedding day was largely due to my wedding planner, who took on all of the stress of the details and allowed me to relax and enjoy every moment. Thus, from a desire to share that same gift with other brides, I founded Chancey Charm.
What’s your favorite part of the job?
I love getting to see everything come together on the day of the wedding. Tweaking the details and making sure that aesthetic details are all in check is such a high. The best part, however, is seeing the bride’s eyes light up when she enters the ceremony and reception spaces for the first time!
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding planners just getting started?
You can never check the numbers and contracts too many times. Going over all of the details, in depth is what makes your services top notch. So, take you time, and know your venue and vendors well. Also, find a good planning program to help you keep track of those budget numbers!
What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?
Ha, this is a bit hard. I feel like design is everywhere we look. I do, however, consider myself a bit of a foodie, and truly enjoy a good lunch or dinner out with the hubs!
Any great stories from working with a client?
We just completed a wedding where the bride was particularly fond of giraffes. We were able to include them in everything from the escort cards to a ten foot floral display at the reception. It was so much fun incorporating this unique love into her design!
What is your current favorite color combination?
Currently, I am obsessing the gold / plum combo. We just finished a wedding that incorporated these colors, and I am smitten!

Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?
I’m really over mason jars… there I said it! ;) Let’s keep the jars, keep the candles, keep the fun drinks, but mix it up a bit with a new shape or color!
What tips or advice can you give to couples who are in the midst of planning?
Establishing a realistic budget and allocating it from the beginning will really save your sanity in the long run. Also, start that guest list now, don’t let it sneak up on you. Give yourself time for these two very important items!
