Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.
Hi, my name is Fidan and I am the owner and the principal certified wedding planner at Designed Dream Wedding Planning. I started the company to help couples design their wedding the way they have always dreamt. Designed Dream Wedding Planning launched successfully in 2010, with a firm belief that I could also help and support other people in making their dreams come true. My clients tell me they love my personality and really admire my passion for this business. I design each wedding as my own, putting my heart and soul into every single one!

How did you get into wedding planning?
After planning and designing my own wedding in 2008 and creating unforgettable life memories, I started helping family and friends plan their weddings, as well as other events. With my love of beautiful weddings and passion for creativity I, a romantic by nature, was able to design weddings not only remembered by the bride and groom, but also by their guests.
With not one but two Master degrees and a rich experience in Marketing and Event Planning, I feel I have a lot to contribute to the modern wedding world. Pulling experiences together from all over the world (having spent significant parts of my life in Europe, Asia and North America) I am able to include many inter-cultural aspects into my designs. This gives me an advantage in understanding and working with various cultures, all while ensuring the most cherished traditions don’t get lost in modern wedding design, but underline it.

What’s your favorite part of the job?
I love every step of this process, starting from the moment my clients and I get to know each other, and me getting to know their personality and starting to understand their needs, to the designing and planning of their big day. The best part is the day of the wedding, when you see the result of all your effort and time invested and when you see a smile on your bride’s face! It is always great to stay friends with your client even after a wedding and see how their lives develop!
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding planners just getting started?
The biggest lesson I have learned is you should never stop learning, keep educating yourself, keep yourself updated and be aware of all trends in the industry. As an advice to all new planners, I would suggest: before you start your own business, take your time and do your research and self-study. It might take you a few months, but trust me, it is worth it. I know a lot of new wedding planners, who started their business without any preparation, any knowledge and all they got was a bad impression on their clients. Take your time to figure out if it is really for you and if it is something you would like to do your whole life.

What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?
Besides being a wedding planner, I am a mom of two wonderful kids, 4.5 yrs old boy and 5 months old girl and a wife to an amazing man. More than everything else in the world, I enjoy spending time with them! I also enjoy travelling and discovering new interesting places, meeting new people, seeing the world and bringing new ideas.
Any great stories from working with a client?
There are so many great stories I could share with you. However my favourite story dates back to 2012. It was a Chinese-Filipino couple and I loved working with them. After their wedding was over, my team and I received a lot of complements from the couple and their families. We stayed connected and touched bases from time to time. That couple also referred me to some of their newly engaged friends. However the best moment for me was when one day I got a text message from the groom on my cell with a picture … of their new born daughter! :) It was such an indescribable feeling, when you know that not only your couple remembered you, but also chose to share another memorable moment in their life with you – birth of their first baby!

What is your current favorite color combination?
I am absolutely in love with soft and pastel colors, which is a big trend right now: blush pink and ivory, white and peach, light blue and peach, mint, cream and white, and other beautiful soft combinations. I love everything what looks simple, but elegant.
Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?
Outdoor wedding have always been a trend, but have become even more of a one recently. All blogs and magazines are talking about outdoor wedding with a vintage or rustic flair. I love outdoor weddings, there always are many more incredible and creative ideas to implement and more cute things to do :) Especially, I adore waterfront or winery weddings, there is just so much about them (my own wedding was waterfront too, which was very memorable not only for us, but for all our guests)!
