Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.

My name is Erik Monrreal the owner/president of MONRREAL & Co., I have always had a passion for interior design and party planning, and what sets me aside from other event planners is that I treat every event as if it were my own and like to be involved in the entire process. It’s amazing when you get to work in the industry that you love- it never feels like work! My favorite part of being in this industry is meeting new people from all around the world and learning new traditions and techniques to ensure our brides are getting the best for their money!

How did you get into wedding planning?

We first started as an event rental company and as we progressed we found our clients requesting the service more and more- So we decided to welcome the idea that brides could come to us as a one stop shop- A big part of every wedding is the décor and what better idea than to facilitate this service to our brides. We don’t only meet with our brides but we like to build a trusting relationship that will last a lifetime of memories!

What’s your favorite part of the job?

My favorite part of working as a coordinator is that it allows me to be hands on on every aspect of our brides event and ensuring that each wedding meets our brides definition of their “perfect day!”. The end result is always the best and at the end of the night its extremely rewarding to see our brides enjoy their big day.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding planners just getting started?

Over all I learned that coordinating an event is not as easy as it seems, the pressure to ensure our brides get to every mark of their “must do, or must have list” completed within a timeframe of 4 hours while they still get to enjoy their big day is crucial. I would recommend keeping up with the timeline as much as possible.

What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?

When not working, I love to swim! It calms me down, clears my mind and keeps me grounded- it helps me realize that I am just one little human in this huge world and helps me care more for others around me.

Any great stories from working with a client?

I have so many memories that our brides have left us with, my most recent one was of one of our brides that called me 2 days before her wedding and told me she would like for me to personally decorate her wedding from top to bottom, she didn’t give me any additional instructions just simply told me “Erik- I trust you and your staff and know you will make it amazing.” To me that added additional pressure but I knew our bride trusted us with her event so much she was willing to let go and enjoy her event without the worries of what the end result would be. She recently called us and said when she walked into her venue she was speechless and cried and repeated how thankful she was she found us. That’s extremely rewarding on its own.

What is your current favorite color combination?

My favorite color combination?.. There are so many! But I love white on white, white flowers, white specialty linens and a white dance floor! But then again I love bold colors! So I would say, don’t follow the trends because they tell you this is the color you should use or this is what you should have- Follow what you love! makes the experience more enjoyable.

Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?

I absolutely love using real flowers for a wedding, not only do they add an amazing fragrance to your venue it also adds such a rich feeling to the entire day. Remember you only get married once! A trend that I would love to see let go a bit is the use of Burlap- I know this is a huge trend right now and it gets use more often at rustic weddings, but rustic does not just mean Burlap! There are so many more options to make each rustic event rustic without the use of burlap.
