Get to Know a Wedding Planner: Peachy Keen Planners

Today’s wedding planner interview is with Courtney of Peachy Keen Planners based in Atlanta, GA! Enjoy:

Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.

First of all my name is Courtney Guthrie. I am the owner, lead coordinator and designer for my company Peachy Keen Planners. I specialize in southern weddings in Georgia, but I also travel to other states (Alabama, North Carolina and South Carolina). I started Peachy Keen Planners 4 years ago. My clients typically are off beat brides, vintage and rustic inspired brides, and any bride that likes to keep things easy. I like to keep things as simple as possible for my clients, so I offer coordination and design services to assist them with bringing their wedding vision to life and turning their wedding dream into a reality.

How did you get into wedding planning?

I got into wedding planning 9 years ago with my mother. I helped her start a wedding venue in Buford GA, Simple Gatherings at Four Oaks Manor. I planned weddings with my mother for a few years. She unfortunately became terminally ill from ALS and I took over as the main wedding coordinator and helped run the business with my father. I helped plan countless beautiful and memorable weddings at Simple Gatherings for 5 years. During my last year at Simple Gatherings, I started Peachy Keen Planners and decided to venture out on my own and offer my services to brides outside of that venue. Since leaving Simple Gatherings I have coordinated and designed weddings all over Atlanta. I will be travelling to Alabama, North Carolina and South Carolina next year assisting more peachy brides outside of Georgia! I have assisted many brides in Georgia this year planning stunning weddings and can’t wait for 2015!

What’s your favorite part of the job?

My favorite part of this job is getting to know my clients. We have so much fun together planning out the details of their big day! I truly love what I do and it is always new for me every time with each and everyone of my clients. No two weddings are exactly the same and I love seeing how happy they are on the day of. Bringing their wedding vision to life and seeing how happy they are on their most cherished day is always so rewarding to me.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding planners just getting started?

I would have to say to try to find your own style and niche in their wedding planning community where you live. My clients love my style and how simple and easy I make things for them. Be true to yourself and develop personal relationships with your clients so that you can better understand their needs to ensure happy clients and successful weddings.

What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?

My non-work related activities include being a mommy to a 4 year old daughter. She keeps me pretty busy when I am not working, so I try to soak up as much family time with her and my husband as I possibly can when I am not working. I also enjoy shopping and painting/crafting. I like to keep my creative juices flowing as much as possible, so that I can come up with creative options and ideas for my clients.

Any great stories from working with a client?

I don’t really have any great stories in particular. Lots of happy wedding days and memories. I have become friends with many of my clients over the years. I personally feel like I have been a part of many love stories and I am happy to create such happy moments and occasions.

What is your current favorite color combination?

I love bold colors. My favorite color combination is Orange, Yellow, Red and Blue. Bright pops of color always looks stunning in photos!

Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?

I love the DIY trend and what off beat brides are doing with non-perishable bouquets and wedding florals/décor. I love flowers, but I also love anything creative and unique.

I would love to see brides leave behind the pressures they face when feeling like they have to do various wedding traditions because everyone tells them they have to do it. I really like when couples take a tradition and put a spin on it to make it personable to them. Sometimes we can create our own traditions. Breaking away from traditions is hard, but also can be a lot of fun when you create something new out of it.

What tips or advice can you give to couples who are in the midst of planning?

The best advice I can give is to have fun planning your wedding. It should be fun and even if you get stressed here and there leading up to your big day, make sure that you have the best wedding professionals around you that can take away those stresses. At the end of the day it is about the two of you and should be the happiest day of your life!
