Today we’re here with Kelly of Affordable Wedding Invites, based in Salem, IL! Take it away Kelly:
How did you get started doing wedding invitations?
I grew up working in my family’s commercial print shop, helping couples browse the pages of Carlson Craft albums and learning about fine papers. A little later, I found inspiration in local couples who wanted more custom styles. We began offering high quality digital printing on fine papers and new ideas just keep coming.

What is your favorite color combination?
I am personally drawn to cooler, water tones, but I enjoy working with any color combination.
Do you have a favorite typeface?
I like to stick with classic, timeless lettering styles. I use Garamond the most.
What is the most unique invitation you have designed?
I once was asked to create a very elegant, very formal bilingual pocket invitation. The couple was renewing their vows and finally hosting the celebration they weren’t able to afford when they were younger. They decided on a completely custom style that featured hand-adorned gemstones and ribbon. I meticulously assembled each one, which actually took less time than I had anticipated. The best part was learning details and cultural aspects of a Spanish celebration.
What is the most bizarre request you have received?
Life size cut outs of the Herald Rabbit and Card Guards for an Alice in Wonderland theme wedding. They turned out really cute!
Ampersand or the word “and?”
Do I have to pick one or the other? I let the design decide.
Any advice for brides?
Ask for samples. There are lots of options in printing methods and papers today, and it can be hard to tell exactly what you are comparing when browsing online. Instead of jumping at the cheapest price, it’s best to view the products in person to get a first-hand view of what you are spending your budget on.
Do you offer more than just stationery?
I have an extensive advertising portfolio as well – I offer logo design, web design and many other advertising designs.
