Today’s Wedding Stationer interview is with Kerry from Kerry’s Papery based in Miami, FL! Enjoy:
How did you get started doing wedding invitations?
I used to live in Virginia and my Mom and I owned three gift stores. We added a stationery department into the gift stores and I absolutely fell in love! We grew to include personalized stationery services. Invitations and all things stationery truly became my passion. We closed the gift stores and I moved to Florida to open my own stationery studio.

What is your favorite color combination?
You know, I really don’t have one! I know that may be unbelievable, but it’s true. Each season brings a new group of colors that become popular. I always love seeing what becomes the trend. There are so many colors to choose from I can’t pick a favorite, but right now natural, neutral colors and tones are very “in”. This season we are seeing champagnes, golds and ivories. But if I had to pick a favorite color for the season, it would be Peach!
What is the most unique invitation you have designed?
Oh my gosh! That’s a tough one! A while ago I got a request to do a wedding. The couple was actually really into video games and they wanted the invitations to match the party design which was some video game called Rapture: Bioshock! I was bioshocked! I had no idea what that was.
I did my research and by the end of the process, we had quite an invitation! It had laser cutting all over and the whole shebang! It ended up looking very “art deco” to me by the time it was done.
Do you have a favorite typeface?
This answer is a lot like my answer to my favorite color combinations: it changes! Believe it or not, but typefaces and fonts go in and out of style . . . just like everything else. New typefaces come out all the time.
Right now I’ve been doing a lot of Edwardian Script. For whatever reason, I’ve been using it for a couple of months now and I really like it. It’s very elegant and flowing. It’s very nice.
What is the most bizarre request you have received?
Believe it or not, it wasn’t the wedding I mentioned above with the video game, Bioshock invitations! Many years ago, I got a request to make the entire invitation 3D. Everything about it was all in 3D and you needed those special red and blue lensed glasses to see it! We had to include the glasses with the invitations. It was a difficult thing to do, but it really ended up coming out great.
Ampersand or the word “and?”
Any advice for brides?
First, Congratulations to the brides! There is a lot that you’re going to be doing in preparation for your weddings. For your invitations and stationery needs the most important part is to be prepared for your stationery consultation. Try to have an idea of what it is that you like and what you are looking for. Of course, it’s always good to have an idea of your budget for when you meet with your stationer. There are many options out there and the more you know at the beginning the sooner we’ll be able to match you with the perfect invitation. We actually have advice videos on our website that can help brides with this.
Do you offer more than just stationery?
Of course! We can do almost anything that has to do with your wedding or event. We do favors, guest books, yarmulkes, ketubahs, menus, cake cutters, unity candles . . . really anything that you want!
