Today’s stationer interview is with Alero of Vividesigns based in Chicago, IL! Enjoy:

How did you get started doing wedding invitations?

Oh wow! This question always gets me. It started out as a hobby, volunteering my time to making flyers and prints for my church events. I found out I really loved designing, and would spend hours trying to perfect a flyer. Over time, with encouragement from my then boyfriend now Husband, family and friends I decided to take the next step …become a paperie designer.

What is your favorite color combination?

I love…love colors and so this is a bit difficult to answer. Mmmmm…Red, combined with any other color always works for me; Red and turquoise (love it), red and white, red and black. The color red is so vibrant, deep and warm.

What is the most unique invitation you have designed?

I get to work with amazing clients with amazing requests; I think that would have to be invitations fashioned after my “Ara” line (Paperie collection that incorporates fabric into the design). I am currently working with a client that wants to use the traditional Ghanaian fabric (Kente) her bridesmaids will be wearing on her wedding day as part of her stationery designs. It is really an exciting project to work on.

Do you have a favorite typeface?

I love working with script typefaces… My favorite is the burgues script; I love its elegant swirls and curves…

Ampersand or the word “and?”

I Love having the option of using ampersand, it can add elegance to a design. Of course, it all depends on the font being used and the overall design intended.

Any advice for brides?

If you can dream it, it can be designed, just try to find a vendor to help bring your vision to life. It is never too early to start… starting early, reduces the stress level as the wedding day gets closer…..I can say this from firsthand experience having been a bride myself a couple years ago.
