Today we’re excited to bring you this interview with Sarah of Britten Weddings! Take it away, Sarah:
Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.
I run Britten Weddings and its sister company Wedding Garter Co. with my husband Matthew in the beautiful town of Bradford-on-Avon in the South West of England. Britten focuses on a range of wedding accessories including veils, hair pieces and jewellery, whereas Wedding Garter Co. specialises in (you guessed it!) bridal garters. All of our bridal accessories are handcrafted by our wonderful team in our ancient studio, which also serves as a luxurious bridal boutique.

How did you get into the business?
Designing leather handbags and working in couture footwear coupled with sourcing accessories for my own wedding led to the founding of Britten in 2011, followed The Wedding Garter Co, in 2014. I wanted to be involved with wedding fashion as I love being around joyful brides and helping them complete their wedding outfit.
What’s your favorite part of the job?
That’s difficult as we are very lucky to see the entire process in our studio in Bradford-on-Avon – all the way from designing and handcrafting the accessories to packaging them and sending them to the brides. However, the best part is definitely seeing pictures of them in use on some of our beautiful brides, it’s so rewarding to feel a part of their special day.
If you could pick one unique product or service offering, which would be your favorite, and why?
Britten Weddings started out with wedding veils so I’ll have to pick one of them. We have a beautiful ‘Mia’ veil which is a silk style tulle veil with French eyelash lace – it’s wonderfully subtle and delicate – I just wish we had designed it before I got married!
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to others just getting started in your field?
I have learned to always listen to others, working in a team means you can bounce ideas off other people. At Britten Weddings we have a close-knit team where we share ideas and work together, you’ll be amazed at the depths of talent and imagination in your own staff!
What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?
I love running and yoga, both are great for clearing your head and helping you solve problems. I also love to make stuff in my spare time- you’d think I would have enough at work but no!
Any great stories from working with a client?
So many! Lots of our designs have been inspired by brides and chatting to them about what their ideal piece would be.
What makes you different from others in your field?
As we don’t go through any resellers we can deliver luxuriously packaged products using the finest English materials directly to our brides, which makes it a far more personal experience for us as well as keeping costs down for the brides. We love to source local materials such as the lace we use to edge our veils, made in a family-owned English mill on machines installed in the 1870s.
Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?
I love that pearls are making a comeback – whether it’s in earrings, headpieces or rings – they work so well with an ivory wedding dress and help bring that extra luxury to an outfit.
What tips or advice can you give to couples who are in the midst of planning their big day?
For brides, the earlier you can choose your dress, the better – you can then add accessories to your outfit that complement your design. For the couple, it’s relax and enjoy yourself, don’t forget to find time for each other even though you’ll be surrounded by so many loved ones!
