Today’s Wedding Vendor interview is with Taryn of Glo, an innovative company that offers paperless wedding invitations and matching websites! Enjoy:
Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.
I’m Taryn, the founder of Glo, which I started almost 5 years ago. I have a business background, and I love technology, so that makes running Glo lots of fun. Glo helps modern-minded engaged couples invite, inform and organize their wedding guests. We offer an integrated suite of email wedding invitations, responsive wedding websites, online RSVPs and guest messaging tools.
With Glo, you can:
- Send Glövites: beautiful email wedding invitations, save-the-dates and even a group thank you. All of our online designs have matching paper designs available to order too.
- Create a Glösite: your multi-page, responsive wedding website. You can personalize like crazy by adding photos or slideshows, videos, interactive maps, or any other widget. You can even specify which guests can view each page.
- Add unlimited events to your website (e.g., rehearsal dinner and reception) and select which guests are able to view each event. The website only shows the correct events to each guest, thus preventing hurt feelings.
- Add unlimited RSVP questions for each event, seamlessly collect responses, and view them online or download them to a .csv file. Guests can edit RSVP responses for their entire household, preventing duplicate RSVPs. You can also update your guests’ RSVP responses online.
- Easily communicate with all or some of your guests before and after the wedding celebration using the easy messaging tool. It’s super easy to ping and remind guests to RSVP or send last minute updates.
You can choose from a range of Glö designs – or upload your own design. Our invitations and websites are responsive, which means they are beautiful on any mobile, tablet or computer device.

How did you get into the business?
Glo was born from a need that my (now) husband and I had when planning our own wedding. We were living in London, planning a wedding in Italy and inviting guests from 15+ countries. I knew right away that the traditional invitation + paper RSVP card system was not going to work for us. I was fortunate enough to have a web developer in the family who created custom email invitations and a RSVP website for us to use. After we sent things out, I started hearing from friends and friends-of-friends who wanted the same functionality. A light went off – so I quit my job, did a bunch of customer research, wrote a business plan and got started.
What’s your favorite part of the job?
I love the days when I hear from Glöbies about what a difference we’ve made in their planning. Because we are a DIY web app, we don’t get to work with our couples on a day-to-day basis or attend their wedding like many other vendors do. This means that I don’t have any of insight into how everyone’s planning is progressing or what the final celebration is like. So when a Glöbie goes out of their way to email us, tell us how much time and stress we saved them, and share photos of their wedding – it gives me an amazing feeling of joy and happiness.
If you could pick one unique product or service offering, which would be your favorite, and why?
We have a few features that I’m particularly proud of. The first is that people describe Glo as being one of the most customizable options available (short of building your own website from scratch.) This is important to me because I love that everyone’s wedding is different – and I believe each couple’s personality should be able to shine through in their wedding communications.
I also love our feature that allows couples to add an unlimited number of events to their website and then specify which guests are supposed to see each event. This means that there are no hurt feelings caused by a guest seeing details for an event that they are not invited to. Plus, it gives our couples peace of mind that the right people have all of the right information for their celebration.
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to others just getting started in your field?
Be true to your couples – let their personalities and unique style guide the way. Just because a so-called wedding expert is talking about “must do’s” or latest trends – that doesn’t mean that couples really want (or need) those things. At the end of the day – weddings are about celebrating the couple and their guests – and not about the latest “must haves” of the season.
What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?
The people in my life are the most important thing, so I am a huge-lover of family outings, a nice dinner party, and girls’ nights. I guess that makes me a bit of a social butterfly – I’ll bring the prosecco!
Any great stories from working with a client?
In April 2013, I had a baby. I do almost all of the customer service for Glo, but I knew I was going to have some slower response times in the day or two after giving birth. It was a bit out of the ordinary, but I put an out of office message on our customer service email letting everyone know what was going on – that any urgent issues would be taken care of but less urgent questions might have a slightly delayed response. I wasn’t sure how that was going to go over with everyone, but I ended up getting the most wonderful replies! Glöbies shared stories of having their own children, or being close to a new niece or nephew, and almost every single person wished me congratulations and good luck. It was overwhelmingly lovely and a very special time that I’ll always remember.
What makes you different from others in your field?
We are the only offering that integrates sophisticated email invitations, with a multi-page wedding website and smart RSVPs, so that makes us different to the other wedding website or paperless invitation providers out there. We are designed specifically for weddings – so we have the features that couples need to invite everyone, share all of the details, reel in the RSVPs, send last minute updates, and then share memories and thanks after the event.
Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?
I’m not sure it’s a trend per-say, but I’m not a huge fan of staged wedding shoots. I think that couples may not realize when they are browsing certain wedding blogs or scouring pinterest that what they are viewing are models and staged wedding venues that are set up just to be photographed. When I was planning my own wedding – I was clueless about it all! I can appreciate some of the details and ideas that come out of photo shoots like those, but it makes me uncomfortable when they create unrealistic expectations for what a wedding celebration should look like or cost.
What tips or advice can you give to couples who are in the midst of planning their big day?
Take some time upfront to decide what is important to you. What type of atmosphere and ambiance you are going for, what details (location, food, dancing?) are important to you, and where you want to spend your budget. Write it down and refer back to it when things start to feel a little bit crazy.
