Today we’re bringing you an interview with Danielle of The Wedding Shoppe, Inc., based in St Paul, MN! Enjoy:
Tell us a bit about your company.
The Wedding Shoppe is a family owned business that began over 40 years ago. We have helped countless couple’s over the years and because of our large selection and unique shopping experience, have grown to be one of the largest bridal salons in the country.
Located in St. Paul, MN on the historic Grand Avenue, The Wedding Shoppe is comprised of four Victorian houses that make-up our retail stores. We have two houses for our bridal department, one house for our bridesmaid department, and one for our menswear department.
Creating happiness isn’t our job, it’s our passion. We ensure that a couple’s wedding will be one of the most important days of their life—settling for nothing but the best. We are industry-leaders who care about our customers, and it’s the reviews from those customers that help us create memorable experiences for every visitor, whether on our website or in our Saint Paul store.

How did you get into the wedding business?
In 1977, Jim and Lois Fritz opened the Wedding Shoppe on Grand Avenue in Saint Paul. At the time, wedding retailers were mostly specialized, forcing brides and grooms to shop at several different specialty shops to find all their wedding needs. At the time, they offered services including bridal gowns, alterations, catering, invitations, and more!
What’s your favorite part of the job?
My favorite part of the job is seeing the happiness of couples after their wedding day. We receive a lot of photos and testimonials post-wedding and it’s so fun to see how it all came together.
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding professionals just getting started?
This biggest lesson I have learned is to have patience with your customers. There are so many emotions that come with planning a wedding and bride’s can oftentimes have increased stress levels, which is rightfully so. It’s super important to do whatever possible to ease their stress and to give them the best customer service possible. This is a once-in-a-lifetime event for them and they deserve only great memories.
What is your current favorite color combination?
Slate Blue, white, greenery, with rustic wood Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind? I LOVE the industrial chic and rustic boho trends for wedding. I would love to see bride’s leave behind mason jars and burlap.
What tips or advice can you give to brides who are in the midst of wedding dress shopping?
We suggest giving yourself the proper amount of time to search for the style of the dress you are wanting. Often times, the dress you envisioned in your mind isn’t always the dress that you choose but it’s great to have an idea before going dress shopping. Once you are in the swing of dress shopping, give yourself enough time for shipping and alterations. You are already stressed throughout the planning process… have your dress shopping be an enjoyable experience that will leave you feeling like a princess and not a stressed out mess.
