Today’s wedding photographer interview is with Francesco from Francesco Spighi | Modern Wedding Photography, based in Tuscany, Italy! Enjoy:
Tell us a bit about yourself and your company
Hi All, my name is Francesco, I live in Florence an I’m 36 years old. I’m a Lover, a Dreamer and a Photographer. In order of preference…. I have fallen in love with photography many years ago, but only two years ago I started to consider it as work, and I became a Professional Wedding Photographer. I’m based in Tuscany, but I love to travel and to meet peoples with different culture; so I can operate through Italy and abroad. I like to observe people and their behavior; I search an unusual point of view in every picture I take and I’m committed to steadily improve my work.

During my wedding services I like to be in the scene, I shoot a lot with wide fast lenses, and the most important point for the success of my work is to get an empathetic feeling with bride and groom.
I spend a lot of time on the editing of the pictures. I consider the post-production as a consistent part of my work an something like a signature. It is important for me that my photographs can be recognized both for composition and editing.
How did you get into wedding photography?
It was a coincidence. I was following fashion and glamour studies, and the people who were teaching me asked me to make a back-stage report. It came out a really great. A wedding photographer saw this shoot and asked me to work with him. In six months I had fallen in love with this amazing world.
What is your favorite part of the wedding day to capture?
The bride getting ready. Absolutely. You can feel the greatest emotion of the wedding day in this moment. When the bride wears the veil, in this precise moment, she understands that the great day is arrived. I love to observe the brides during this moment. It is really exciting…and often this is the first moment in a wedding where you can see somebody crying!
What is the most awkward moment you’ve experienced while on the job?
Can we speak about a bridesmaid that tried to seduce me? If yes, this is my awkward moment! I’m married with two wonderful children. I love my family and this is the reason for which I love to do this work. I like to see the birth of a new family!
What’s the best thing you ever ate at a wedding?
I live in Tuscany…everything is great to eat here!
What is your favorite venue and why?
I don’t have a favorite location. I like change, it gives me new incentives and opportunities. But if I have to chose, the VIncigliata Castle, near Florence, is really an exciting venue.
Nikon or Canon?
Nikon, but there are only a gears. I chose Nikon just for handling reasons. Technically, you can take a great picture also with a smartphone.
What is your dream location to shoot a wedding?
I would love to shoot in San Galgano, an abandoned old church in the center of Tuscany. It is an amazing mystic place and I haven’t shot yet there, but I hope to soon.
If you could shoot any celebrity wedding (past, present or future), who would be the lucky couple?
This is easy: Liz Taylor and Richard Burton. They were beautiful and so glamorous!
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding photographers just getting started?
Search for the emotions. I think a good wedding story must be founded mainly on the emotions. Search for inspiration, but don’t copy. Try to be original and to think different.
