Today’s wedding photographer interview is with Brian from Miralli Photography, based in Levittown, NY! Enjoy:
Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.
My name is Brian Dolan and I am 36 years old. I have lived on Long Island my entire life, as a young boy I have always had a passion for photography. I started Miralli Photography in 2006 to provide exceptional one-on-one professional wedding photography service as alternative for couples on Long Island who couldn’t afford the major brick and mortar wedding studios. I personally work on all weddings from bookings, photography, editing as well as custom album design. I truly enjoy capturing all the moments that makes each wedding day special.
How did you get into wedding photography?
My journey started in 1996 as I worked for several Long Island studios while attending college majoring in fine arts and graphic design. Most weekends I worked for studios as a photographers assistant, event booking, and album planning and designing. I had developed my skills and passion and became a photographer with primary focus on wedding photography, however I love all aspects of the wedding photo industry which lead me to establish my company Miralli Photography.
What is your favorite part of the wedding day to capture?
There are many parts of the wedding day that are fun for a photographer, however If I had to choose one part of the wedding day as my personal favorite, its bridal portraits. Capturing glamorous portraits and candids of the bride as she’s about to begin her long awaited wedding day is most fun.
What is the most awkward moment you’ve experienced while on the job?
I honestly have not had any awkward moments that stand out, sometimes bridesmaids can be very excited about the wedding and talk about things men usually are not accustomed to hearing.
What’s the best thing you ever ate at a wedding?
I am not an adventurer with food, any entree with chicken works for me.
What is your favorite venue and why?
Oheka Castle in Huntington New York. It’s a historical place with many distinguishable areas outside and inside for memorable wedding photos.
Nikon or Canon?
I have always been a Canon guy. I have over $25k invested in cameras and lens, I do not intend to try Nikon anytime soon.
What is your dream location to shoot a wedding?
Grand Hotel in Florence Italy. It’s classy, romantic and beautiful with all its details.
If you could shoot any celebrity wedding (past, present or future), who would be the lucky couple?
Elvis and Priscilla Presley
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding photographers just getting started?
Before I became a main wedding photographer I witnessed as a assistant and as 2nd photographer the many challenges and time constraints wedding photographers can encounter. As a wedding album designer for studios I studied every facet of a wedding day. When I photograph a wedding I ensure that every moment and detail is captured in order to create a beautiful story book album. My advise to a beginner is to work many weddings as an assistant and learn the details of the day. Invest in professional grade lens and cameras, its also best to have too much equipment than not enough.
