Sunny Studios was kind enough to give us an interview this morning. Amanda photographs in the Cincinnati, Ohio and Louisville, Kentucky area and her work is absolutely amazing!
1. Tell us a bit about yourself and your company
I am a dreamer and photography allows me to dream in reality. I love shooting weddings because they make me happy. My couples make me happy. It’s that simple. I feel special to have been invited to share such a wonderful moment in their lives. I want to work with people who become my friends. I want to share their happiness with the world!

2. How did you get into wedding photography?
While I was in photography school, I wanted any part time job associated with photography. I was more interested in food/commercial photography but the only job I could find was assisting with a local wedding photographer. When I assisted my first wedding, I was scared to death! Luckily, I did just fine and started assisted regularly. I grew to love weddings and everything about them. Eventually, I had enough images to start my own website (and a wonderful employer who let me use my images for my own use) and shortly after I published my website, my wedding photography business took off!
3. What is your favorite part of the wedding day to capture?
It’s hard to pick one specific part of a wedding day that is my favorite to capture. Each part of a wedding has it’s own significance and charm. I love spending time with just the couple while shooting portraits and allowing them to have a few minutes alone to soak in the joy of their day.
4. What is the most awkward moment you’ve experienced while on the job?
The most awkward moment I’ve ever experienced while shooting a wedding was when I tripped over my own camera bag. I set it on the ground behind me, got caught up in shooting & the next thing I knew, I was on the ground. Luckily, the bridal party was awesome and didn’t make fun too badly!
5. What’s the best thing you ever ate at a wedding?
The best food I’ve ever eaten at a wedding was a french fry bar! French fries with everything you could possibly think of to put on top! It was delicious!
6. What is your favorite venue and why?
Since I shoot in both Cincinnati, OH & Louisville, KY, I have two venues! In Cincinnati, my absolute favorite location is the Cincinnati Nature Center. A beautiful nature reserve with trails, a lake, a beautiful cabin – perfect for nature lovers. In Louisville, I love Glassworks. The industrial building houses a glassblowing workshop and features beautiful modern spaces full of light. Weddings are often held on the roof with the most beautiful view of the city.
7. Nikon or Canon?
I am a Nikon girl! I think both are great brands. I just happened to start with Nikon & that’s what I’ve continued to use. I love my Nikon gear!
8. What is your dream location to shoot a wedding?
I absolutely love to travel, so I would love to shoot weddings anywhere and everywhere. I recently had the opportunity to shoot a session in Venice, Italy & fell in love with the city. I would be ecstatic to shoot a wedding in Venice.
9. If you could shoot any celebrity wedding (past, present or future), who would be the lucky couple?
I would have loved to been there for Grace Kelly’s wedding to Prince Rainier of Monaco in 1956. She was absolutely stunning and what an exciting time in history!
10. What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding photographers just getting started?
The biggest lesson that I’ve learned has been to keep going, no matter what. My advice would be to not pay attention to what everyone else is doing. Stay true to yourself and what you want your business to be! That, and if you are just starting out, read your camera’s manual.
