Today’s wedding planner interview is with Danielle of Classically Lovely Events, based in San Diego, CA! Enjoy:

Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.

I am a wedding planner, coordinator and designer hailing from the beautiful city of San Diego (California, not Texas). I was born and raised in a small town in So Cal and moved to San Diego to attend San Diego State (Go Aztecs!). I have always been very much into anything design and I studied art history in college. My love for art kind of transferred into a love for events. I love curating a great event and spend my days designing up the perfect wedding for my brides (and grooms!)

How did you get into wedding planning?

I was lucky I went to a college that offered a degree in Event Planning, but that wasn’t my major. I decided to take the art history route and spent my days writing papers on Degas and Frida Kahlo. Who would have thought that would peak my interest in weddings. I then discovered my first wedding blog and starting planning my own wedding, and couldn’t imagine myself doing anything else. The rest they say is history.

What’s your favorite part of the job?

I love every part of my job, but executing the day of the wedding is my absolute favorite. I will never forget what my father in law said to me a few years ago, “I love watching the groom’s face as his bride walks down the aisle. It’s the most priceless” and I still do that to this day, I watch the groom as he watches his bride and I can’t help but get choked up seeing his face glow and the tears in his eyes. Priceless.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding planners just getting started?

I am far from being a seasoned professional and am still new myself, so I am still learning. But, one thing I have learned and stays with me still is patience. Mindy Weiss didn’t get where she is today by starting at the top, she had to work her way up. You have to start from somewhere. (I am still telling myself this!).

What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?

I honestly think my whole life revolves around design. My husband and I bought our first house back in April, so our lives revolve around decorating and building things for our home. We also spend a lot of time with our almost 4 year old bichon-poodle mix, Beau (he is seriously the love of our lives), at the dog park or beach. We love to host family and friends at our house for dinner parties and BBQ’s. My husband is honestly my best friend, so like most best friends do, I spend my time with him! I have a handful of girlfriends I love to see when I can, wine nights are my favorite.

Any great stories from working with a client?

I think every client I work with has a great story to tell. One of my clients I am working with now makes me want to be a better person. Her fiancé battled cancer for a long time and they are still dealing with the aftermath, but every time I meet with them, they are always smiling and so happy to be with each other. It makes me reconsider what is important in life.

What is your current favorite color combination?

I am very much a preppy girl (my sister in law and sister tell me constantly) so I will stay with that and say navy blue and light pink. So nautical and preppy at the same time.

Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?

I absolutely LOVE photo booths! Every time I go to a wedding with one I just get so excited! Photos last forever after the day is over, and while your professional ones you cherish, your photo booth ones are ones that will forever make you smile and relive the day!
