Kelly is part of the talented trio at Clementine Custom Events. She loves what she does, and it’s totally apparent in her photos. Seriously, they look like they could have been peeled from the pages of a wedding magazine. Thanks Kelly, we’re so glad to have you!

1. Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.
I started working in the wedding industry 10 years ago…it was the perfect fit right away. I always knew I wanted to be a wedding coordinator and in 2009 Clementine was born. Myself, Melissa and Loren all came from a catering background so we love all the tiny details, logistics, floor plans, menus etc… we really pride ourselves on our relationships with Chicago’s top venues and vendors. We like to make the planning process fun and we’ll do whatever it takes to ensure our client’s vision is delivered. Each couple is different and that is what really keeps things interesting!

2. How did you get into wedding planning?
I started as an Event Producer at a large catering and event planning company. One year later I was promoted to a Sales Consultant and I was in that role for just about 6 years. My love for details and logistics started with this job. I knew I wanted to step away from catering and move towards a wedding consultant because I was more interested in the floor plans, time lines, linens, décor etc…than I was with the menu development. Now I’m lucky enough to have vast experience with both aspects.

3. What’s your favorite part of the job?
Hands down the best part of the job is on wedding day! We’ve planned and planned for 6-18 months and when the big day finally arrives it’s just the best. I love seeing all the details come together. I love working as a team with the other vendors to make everything fall into place. I love the pure adrenaline of setting the event up. This job is very rewarding, the clients are always so happy and thankful and it makes me feel happy to have been a part of their big day.
4. What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding planners just getting started?
The biggest lesson I learned is always have a plan B. Always have backup because you just never know what the day is going to bring so you’d better be prepared!

5. What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?
I love spending time with my family (especially long bikes rides), hosting parties at my home and drinking wine with friends.
6. Any great stories from working with a client?
I have so many great stories I wouldn’t know where to start. Every couple is wonderful in their own way.

7. What is your current favorite color combination?
I love all colors, bold and neutral. I prefer a color palette (3-5 colors) instead of two. Everything doesn’t need to be so “matchy matchy” I’m really drawn to orange and turquoise right now but of course that isn’t for everyone!
8. Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?
I love that brides and grooms are feeling more comfortable breaking the mold. I always try to remind my couples that this is THEIR day and they can do whatever they want. I have so many unique weddings coming up and I can’t wait. I wish some of my couples would feel more comfortable ditching some of the older traditions.
