Today’s wedding planner interview is with Elaine of Events by Elaine, based in Nashville, TN! Enjoy:
Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.
If I condense my vision down to one sentence, it would be that I really focus on offering brides a relaxed and down-to-earth wedding option. Planning a wedding can be a lot of time and work. When that special day arrives, I want my brides and grooms to really be able to enjoy the day and have fun. At the end of the wedding, I want my couples to feel that I was the best decision they made for their wedding.
While Events by Elaine is based in Nashville, I have traveled around the Southeast and the country for weddings. Every wedding is truly so unique to the couple getting married and I customize my services to match them and their needs. Proposals to full planning, there is an option for every bride. Every detail, vendor and recommendation is personalized for each couple staying true to their vision.
How did you get into wedding planning?
I planned my own wedding and never thought about wedding planning again! However, friends and family kept asking me to plan and manage their wedding. I had also been volunteering at a non-profit planning conferences and seminars. Shortly after, at my corporate job I was doing a lot of work planning conventions and workshops. My family encouraged me to start my own business. After a lot of nudging, I started Events by Elaine as a full time business. It was a natural transition to move into wedding and event planning. I have now been planning events for over 10 years.
What’s your favorite part of the job?
I love seeing the details come together on the wedding day. All the plans on paper and the inspiration boards materialize to become a reality…all the colors and designs, the cake, the flowers, everything! I sometime take photos of the details as they develop and share them with the bride. Their faces always light up. I love that I get to do this for a job and work with such wonderful people who invite me into their life for one special day.
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding planners just getting started?
Get involved in your local network of wedding professionals. Never stop learning. Look to other planners not as competition but a great resource and mentor.
What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities? I love gardening and playing in the dirt. It is so rewarding to see flowers and vegetables growing with just a little TLC. It just relaxes me to reconnect with nature.
Any great stories from working with a client?
Every wedding has that one moment…that moment I remember every time I think back. It might be a grandfather dancing with the bride or an aunt doing a traditional Hawaiian dance. I get teary watching the families give heartfelt speeches and old family traditions being passed down to another generation.
What is your current favorite color combination?
Not a specific combination, but I love pops of color. It could be reds or yellows or blues or greens….just eye catching details that stand out.
Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?
I think we could leave behind sparklers. Fire and drunk people just don’t mix. I am loving some of the non-traditional elements starting to influence weddings such as champagne and peach color wedding gowns.
