Today’s wedding planner interview is with LaDonna of LaDonna Lanier Events, based in Little Rock, AR! Enjoy:
Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.
Starbucks vanilla lattes, impromptu shopping sprees, Scandal weekends, these are a few of my favorite things. Although my phone gallery provides evidence to support the title of crazy dog lady, it also proves that the only really crazy thing about me is my passion for wedding planning. Not only do I pride myself on gorgeous styling, the service must be above and beyond sensational during the entire process.

I’m funny (in my own mind anyway), creative, and laid back. My clients become old friends, sometimes even before we meet. I’ve never met a stranger. If you want a wedding stylist that’ll make your wedding feel like it’s the most important day ever, then I’m your chica! We’re not your run of the mill wedding planning company even though that’s what we do. We just like to do it with a bit more umph. Our idea of wedding planning is merging logistics with creativity and style. We live outside the box, and we like it here!
The process all starts with a chat. We want to know about you, your personality, your likes, and dislikes. We want to hear your story. We want to help you find clarity in all the blogs, pins, and tear sheets. We want to capture your essence and transform it into the perfect day. LaDonna Lanier Events is all about telling your story. Your love is powerful, so we surround you with information, inspiration, support, and hugs. We’re unapologetic about our devotion to our clients, gorgeousness, and awesomeness!
How did you get into wedding planning?
I’d been planning events for over ten years and had sworn to never do a wedding. Bridezillas, long term planning, who wanted that? Certainly not me. Then, my best friend got engaged and asked specifically for wedding planning as a gift. Since I had no desire to find a new bestie, I accepted the challenge. Literally from day one (literally!), I was hooked. Now, I can’t imagine doing anything else.
What’s your favorite part of the job?
Hands down, the moment when we do the pre-wedding walk through, when my couple sees their vision become a reality is magical every single time.
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding planners just getting started?
This is a two part answer for me. Number one: Learners are earners. Never reject an opportunity to learn. Whether it’s about planning or running your day to day business, embrace education. Second: Own your power. Accepting the fact that you’ve been blessed with an amazing talent and own it. Know the line between fact and arrogance and never cross it. But, there’s nothing wrong with knowing you’re an awesome planner.
What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?
I absolutely love writing, always have. I’ve developed a new passion in the last eight months and that is documentary video film making. It’s a new way to envision my life, family, and art in general. I love it!
Any great stories from working with a client?
Yes! I had the best assistant in the world, Keely. During her interview, she told me how much she loved the idea of love but would never get married. Over the next two years, all I heard everyday was how marriage wasn’t for her. Over the next three years, all I heard was how marriage wasn’t for her. Then, she met the one. Sam changed everything. Now the wedding assistant who’d sworn off marriage is in the process of planning the most swoon worthy wedding with yours truly!

What is your current favorite color combination?
Right now, I’m crushing hard on gray and tangerine. Love!
Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?
I’m not a trend kinda girl. I like to come from an organic place when planning with my couples so I intentionally don’t track trends.
