Sarah, from Pink Cloud 9 gave us today’s interview. She sent me so many photos, it was hard to select which ones to share with you today because they were all so awesome. Thanks Sarah!
1. Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.
I’m Sarah Shewey and I founded Pink Cloud Events back in 2006. We were one of the first companies to promote sustainable events and were featured in NPR’s breakthrough piece about couples going green for their weddings! We recently launched a new division of the company, Pink Cloud 9, on Valentine’s Day this year, and we’re really excited about that!

Pink Cloud 9 is a collective of wedding planners and coordinators that offer easy and affordable support solutions to DIY couples that are planning their own wedding. We provide one-on-one advice sessions (TalkTime) for as low as $25 and wedding day coordination starting at $600 which includes 2 coordinators, planning templates, access to our exclusive vendor prices, and a consultation session.
2. How did you get into wedding planning?
I worked for a high-end caterer in Boston, managed the Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach, and coordinated the audio-visual productions at the #1 wedding hotel in Southern California. I managed hundreds of weddings in many different capacities before striking out on my own!
3. What’s your favorite part of the job?
My favorite part of the job is seeing the “A Ha!” moment when our brides put a piece of their wedding puzzle together because of some advice or recommendation that we provide – wiping away the gray clouds and making it easy to kick back and enjoy a relaxing pink cloud sunset! :)
4. What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding planners just getting started?
Trust your instincts, and learn how to be a team player.

5. What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?
We got a new Australian Cattle Dog puppy, Mega Marvin (check out his dog blog!). It’s my first dog, so I love teaching him new tricks, going for hikes, to the beach, and just chilling with my new lil pal. I also support a lot of non-profits and local communities through volunteer support.

6. Any great stories from working with a client?
Wow… there are really so many!! There’s always at least a few great, lasting moments in every wedding — funny ones, ones that make you cry (happily), and ones that really make you reflect about the importance of being deeply connected to each other. But I do personally love when the grooms surprise the brides at the wedding with either with a song he wrote himself, fireworks, or a surprise honeymoon vacation that she thought she wouldn’t have! :)
7. What is your current favorite color combination?
Depends on the season… but for Spring 2012? Bright colors accenting layers of earth tones.
8. Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?
Well, maybe this goes without saying, but we live for the DIY trend!
