Today’s wedding planner interview is with Allison of Pop the Champagne, based in Huntington Beach, California! Enjoy:
Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.
Pop the Champagne was founded with one goal—to help couples in whatever area they need. Some brides have the DIY and decor part down but need help with logistics and organization…some are so busy they need an extra set of hands doing all the research and going back and forth with vendors… my goal is to help make the wedding planning process as stress-free and fun as possible!
How did you get into wedding planning?
I had always worked in hospitality and events but when I planned my own wedding in 2010 I just fell in love with everything about the business and knew I found my calling. I knew there was a need for a planner who was affordable and open to unique, non-traditional ideas—because that was what I was looking for! I couldn’t believe how much resistance I got for some of my ideas like serving booze before the ceremony and a nacho cheese fountain. Pop the Champagne will NEVER look at you funny for crazy ideas…the crazier the better!
What’s your favorite part of the job?
So many things! I love the look on a bride’s face when they fall in love with an idea and they can picture it at their wedding. I also love watching the ceremony…when it comes down to it every centerpiece, photobooth and aisle pom pom don’t matter. What matters is your getting married to the person you love!
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding planners just getting started?
I think I learn something new every single wedding I work! Always get on the parents’ good side… remember it’s not about what you like—only what they like… and OVER communicate with every vendor and member of the wedding party.
What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?
When I am not at a wedding, planning a wedding, reading or blogging about weddings or just talking about weddings… I can be found at the beach with my dogs, enjoying a cocktail at happy hour or hanging with my awesome husband.
Any great stories from working with a client?
I love every time a client comes up with a unique, non-traditional idea for their wedding. Some of my favorite include shots of whiskey during the ceremony, confetti canons and sing a longs!
What is your current favorite color combination?
I really love coral and pistachio for spring! I tend to gravitate toward bold colors no matter what season.
Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?
People aren’t going to agree but I am getting pretty sick of this mason jar thing! I love the trend of late-night snacks served to guests when everyone is all drunk and starving!
