Sarah Viera Event Planning & Design gave us such a wonderful interview today! She trained to be in the 2000 Olympics, how awesome is that? I don’t want to give all the interview away in the intro…so I’ll let you read the post! Thanks a lot Sarah (and adorable photo by the way!).

1. Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.

My name is Sarah Viera; I am a wedding coordinator in Colorado Springs and surrounding areas with the dream of doing destination weddings as well. 15 years ago I moved to Colorado to live at the Olympic Training Center (OTC) in hopes to make the 2000 Olympics. From that point on, I built a life here with family and friends. While I miss the ocean, wineries, fresh fruit and vegetables of California I love what Colorado has to offer. I met my husband at the OTC; we married in 2002 and have a daughter who has brightened both our lives.

2. How did you get into wedding planning?

Let’s just say I dream BIG. I love fashion, would love to attend Fashion week anywhere in the world and even plan a fashion show event. When my husband told me I would be great at project management I decided to put my project management skills into a world that I understood and loved; events. I became certified in wedding and event planning and while completing my certification I had a friend become engaged. I planned her entire wedding and from that moment, I have never looked back, only forward to one day hosting that fashion show!

3. What’s your favorite part of the job?

It’s so hard to say what my favorite part of the job is. I truly love what I do and how I help family enjoy their day to the fullest. The passion behind my business comes from the need to let mothers, sisters, aunts, brides and grooms truly enjoy one of the biggest days in their life. At my own wedding I remember asking where my mother was. Come to find out, someone had to make sure the centerpieces were set, the cake arrived on time and the entire wedding was how one visions it. And while those things were taken care of thanks to my family, I never want another bride or her family to experience that. This is not only a huge moment for the bride and groom, but also for their parents. They should enjoy the moment just as much as the bride and groom.

4. What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding planners just getting started?

As a wedding planner you are truly responsible for everything so KNOW everything. Do not leave any detail unnoticed, in doubt or think another vendor will handle that detail. You as the planner are the one they will come to with questions and it’s important to know exactly the brides vision. And truly enjoy your job. This may not be your first coordinated wedding or event, but for a bride, this most likely is their first wedding and they want only the best. So provide the service as if it is the first time you are doing it.

5. What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?

Spending as much time as I can with my family. I love to shop (probably a little too much), travel, read, yoga, cook, photography, crafting (a new found hobby) and enjoy a nice cup of coffee.

6. Any great stories from working with a client?

Each bride is unique and different in their own way that they each leave a special place in my heart. Some provide laughter, some provide tears and others provide the true value of friendship.

7. What is your current favorite color combination?

I love the creamy dreamy feel. My first bride’s vision was classic, elegant and romantic. One can’t go wrong with a classic theme and when combined with champagne, ivory, gold or silver you create an event to remember. I also love charcoal and yellow together.

8. Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?

I love that the design of a wedding or event is always changing. There is something new and exciting out each moment you think you know your style. I wouldn’t say I want any trend to be left behind because I feel if it fits with your brides theme then make it happen but just enhance it even more.
