Today’s planner interview is with Selina of Selina Rose Weddings and Events based in Murrieta, CA! Enjoy:

Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.

I am a loving mom of two beautiful boys that continue to motivate me every day. Along with being a mother, I am proud to say that I honestly have the best job in the world. I officially launched Selina Rose Weddings and Events this last April, but have been planning weddings and events for a few years now.

My mission is to first build a relationship based on trust and commitment.  Understanding you on a personal level will help me make your dream wedding a reality.  My goal is to create an environment that captures the essence of your wedding or event while exceeding expectations. Every wedding accepted is treated as if I were planning my own, delivering the same amount of passion and attention to detail.

I offer packages for those who have already started the planning process, or for those who desire planning after the moment of engagement. I will deliver a stress free experience by handling all logistics, acting as your voice and resolving any unforeseen incidents. I would also love to collaborate on planning a charity, or a non-profit event of your choice.  I will work closely with you, forming a team of like-minded individuals with the same desire to support a great cause. I believe very strongly in the importance of giving back to the community and helping those in need.

Services provided are: Complete Wedding Planning, Partial Wedding Planning Packages, Month/Day of Wedding Planning Packages, Free Consultations, and Non-Profit and Charity Events.

How did you get into wedding planning?

Growing up, I always had an innate desire to bring people together to celebrate an amazing event, and knew that this was my calling. I graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in Recreation and Tourism management, and became certified in Wedding and Event Planning. During and after college, I pursued a professional career in the corporate world of hotel management and accounting in San Diego, and Los Angeles leading to over 10 years of experience in the hospitality industry.

A few years ago, the hotel management company I was working for went under due to the economy, and I needed to search for new opportunities. With a lot of thought and research, I decided to take a risk and trust what my heart was telling me to do and start building a small wedding and event planning business. I began offering my services to family and friends who were recently engaged. I received a tremendous amount of support and encouragement that kept me positive and determined to establish goals, and fulfil my dreams of having my own business as a wedding planner.

I am so thankful for the opportunities that were presented to me at this time of learning and growing. I feel honored that my brides and grooms trusted me to help plan one of the most important days of their lives. I am very fortunate to do what I love. What a blessing it is to be in the business of seeing people’s dreams come true and making a positive difference in the world. I am excited to continue to grow, and see what the future holds for my business.

What’s your favorite part of the job?

I truly enjoy getting to know each bride and groom and their families during the planning process. Each client is so unique with a different vision for their wedding. I love being a part of seeing their vision evolve, and come to life. I also value building strong relationships with many talented vendors in the industry. We all work together closely and efficiently to make sure their vision is captured, their day looks beautiful, and flows seamlessly.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding planners just getting started?

So many people overlook the amount of time and intimacy shared with a wedding planner. Establishing this level of comfort with your clients is the key to a successful event. Also, it is important to make sure you have detailed contracts for every wedding vendor hired that are reviewed, signed and dated. Trust me, you will be thankful that you did!

What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?

Every morning, I enjoy starting the day off with a nice walk with my sons before school begins. Spending quality time with my family and friends is so important to me. I love experiencing new adventures in the outdoors, creating lasting memories, and capturing photos everywhere I go with the people I adore. I am also a bit of a thrill seeker. I will not turn down the opportunity to skydive or ride a good rollercoaster! I love being in the water, whether it be swimming in a pool, at the beach or in a lake.

Any great stories from working with a client?

One of my brides is a dancer with a very fun and unique personality. She wanted to surprise her fiancé with a “flash mob” at their wedding. To organize the “flash mob”, she choreographed a dance to “Simply Irresistible” by Robert Palmer, and made a video of her and a friend dancing and teaching the steps to her guests. She uploaded this video onto YouTube, and emailed the YouTube link to every guest inviting them to learn the dance prior to their big day, and to keep this “flash mob” a secret from her fiancé.

On their wedding day during the reception, the cue to know that the “flash mob” was about to happen was that we had the DJ announce that the groom please come to the dance floor because his bride had a surprise for him. I put a chair in the center of the dance floor prior to the announcement for him take a seat. Once that happened, “Simply Irresistible” played, and the bride along with every guest including me started dancing the choreographed dance all together around her groom! This was so amazing to see all the hard work she put into making this happen! Everyone had a blast, and her groom was so surprised! What a fun and exciting memory!

What is your current favorite color combination?

I am obsessed with a rose gold, blush pink, silver and white wedding color palate. The softness of these colors brings a romantic feel along with a touch of elegance for a polished look. Simply beautiful!

Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?

I love seeing brides not afraid of incorporating vibrant colors in their wedding, especially during the summer and fall seasons! Using bright and bold colors in your wedding flowers, fashion, and décor can add a whimsical feel and really bring out the fun and playful side of your personality. Shades of pinks, purples, oranges, and yellows look radiant together!

What tips or advice can you give to couples who are in the midst of planning their big day?

Personalize your wedding to your style as a couple, and take time to enjoy your engagement and the planning process! This is meant to be a fun and exciting! There are so many details that go into planning a wedding, and it is easy to get overwhelmed with to do lists. Try not to get caught up in all the little items. I would advise couples to hire a wedding planner (if they haven’t already) as early in the planning process as possible to help keep every detail in order and help you make choices easily, reducing a large amount of unnecessary stress when tackled alone. By hiring a planner, you can fully allow yourself to experience every special moment of your big day, while your planner handles every minute detail. This is an investment worth making!
