Behind every great wedding planner is a marvelous story! Today’s interview is with Cydney of Stiletto Event Planning, a fabulous wedding planner that has some insights to make any wedding shine.
1. Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.
I’ve been ‘dreaming in wedding’ since I can remember. Weddings and event planning have always been of interest to me and deep down, I knew it was something I was going to do sometime in my life. I’ve always noticed many wedding planners start in this industry after they get married…that was not the case for me. Stiletto Events has been around for almost 2 1/2 years and I only recently got married in October 2011. My husband is now my partner in crime and has helped me with each and every wedding since. Though we are small, we are a powerhouse for wedding planning. Attention to detail and working with any budget sets Stiletto Events aside from most other Wedding Planning companies.

2. How did you get into wedding planning?
When I was 18, I started working for a dating company (back before Internet dating became popular), and was planning all of their events. That’s essentially how I learned the ropes, and it wasn’t long after, I decided it was time to venture into Wedding and Event planning for myself. I found an online course and certified myself in IWEP (International Wedding and Event Planning). By the time I had received my certification Stiletto Events was in full swing. We had already planned 6 weddings and we’re continuing to book more!
3. What’s your favorite part of the job?
You’d think this would be easy…but I don’t think I have a specific favorite part of my job. I truly love everything I do. The moment I sign a bride, I get excited for the new adventure I will be taking with her and her groom! I do truly enjoy seeing the faces on my brides and grooms when they walk into the wedding and reception and their faces light up knowing that everything is exactly how they pictured it. Making dreams come true is not only fun but a complete honor!
4. What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding planners just getting started?
Honestly, I think my biggest lesson I’ve learned is overcoming my own fears and starting up a business on my own. It’s scary and unpredictable…but sometimes you have to jump head first in order to do what you love doing.
5. What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?
I live in Colorado, so getting out and enjoying all the beauty the state has to offer is a must. I’m enjoying settling into married life and taking our 2 dogs to the dog park.
6. Any great stories from working with a client?
I think one of my favorite stories was working with a client who had a winter wedding. It was my very first winter wedding, and I was worried about weather…when we woke up the next morning, it was whiteout conditions. We had an hour and a half drive to the venue without the conditions, so it was good that I woke up as early as I did (I’m always up at the crack of dawn on wedding days!) When we got there, snow was everywhere…the heat wasn’t kicking in and the bride was worried nobody would show up. Once we got everything in place and the building finally warmed up, guests started showing up! Each and every guest who RSVP’d yes made it! The bride was truly beaming and the entire wedding day turned out beautiful…and the snow made for some cold, but GORGEOUS pictures!
7. What is your current favorite color combination?
I absolutely love color! Pops of color and BRIGHT pops of color at that. I love color combinations you wouldn’t think would go together, like pink and orange or lime green and purple. If a bride comes to me looking for something different, unique color combinations are one of the first thing I suggest to them.
8. Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?
I love when brides and grooms make a wedding that screams who they are as a couple and individually. Adding unique twists like a favorite sports team, or hobby the couple enjoy doing together makes the day so much more personal and fun. More and more brides are catching onto this! I love it! As far as trends brides can leave behind…I love the vintage weddings, but I’m starting to feel like they’re over done…this is where the bride and groom need to find their unique point and add that element into their wedding.
