Today’s wedding planner interview is Nelly Grange of wedOtahiti, based in the tropical paradise of French Polynesia! Enjoy:
Tell us a bit about yourself and your company.
I have been managing hotel operations, sales, marketing and event planning in French Polynesia for over a decade and in 2013, I decided to merge my passion for the islands of Tahiti, my love for all the details that go into planning a wedding and creativity into one and launched wedOtahiti.

How did you get into wedding planning?
When I decided to get in the wedding industry, I knew that I needed a certification that would teach me the ins and outs of the business. I graduated as a Certified Wedding & Event Planner because I knew that this would well complement my Master’s Degree in Hotel Management & Marketing, and would give me the knowledge and skills to help every couple’s dreams come true with minimal amount of stress and frustration. I then naturally moved from my former resort position to running my own wedding planning company.
What’s your favorite part of the job?
My favorite part of the job is definitely creating destination weddings that are unique to each couple, in other words designing their “perfect” wedding whatever that means to them.
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding planners just getting started?
Despite just starting my own company myself, I’ve been organizing weddings for a few years. I think the one and most important thing I learned and would pass along is that your business is only as good as your worst vendor, so be selective.
What are your hobbies or non-work-related activities?
When not working on fabulous weddings, you will most likely find me hanging around my garden with my Hubby, my dog and the cat… I love to travel the world and have already visited over 20 countries… there are lots of destinations and places that remain on my bucket list either with some trekking plans or scuba diving explorations in mind.
Any great stories from working with a client?
Just one…? Generally speaking, I love working with clients who have guests travelling from around the world… because Tahiti is located halfway between California and Australia (under 8 hours non-stop flight from L.A.) it really makes it easy to reconnect and feels like they’re together alone to celebrate!
What is your current favorite color combination?
I love the mint / coral combination.
Are there any trends that you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?
A cool trend is the sky lanterns release. That is a fun way to entertain guests and is absolutely brilliant under the South Pacific skies.
