Today’s stationer interview is with Arabella of Arabella June Design Studio based in Cape Town, South Africa! Enjoy:
How did you get started doing wedding invitations?
It all started when I designed a friend’s wedding stationery and personalised crest for her wedding. Even though I still have my graphic design freelance business, creating hand painted wedding crests and stationary is by far the most satisfying career!

What is your favorite color combination?
I tend to go towards the neutral color palettes and pale pinks, but it really all depends on my my mood. Although right now I’m mad about duck egg blue.
What is the most unique invitation you have designed?
I love it when a client asks me to include their pets into their crests and wedding stationery. That really adds a personal touch. One client even asked me to paint them a pet portrait.
Do you have a favorite typeface?
I seem to have a new favourite font every month. I love SangBleu BP Sans and Sanford Book at the moment, but I’ve also got a gorgeous selection of organic handwritten fonts I adore.
What is the most bizarre request you have received?
At this stage I haven’t really received any bizarre requests, but that’s what makes this industry so exciting. You never quite know what you will get asked to create next.
Ampersand or the word “and?”
One can never go wrong with an Ampersand.
Any advice for brides?
Try and get in contact with your designer early in the planning process to make sure your wedding stationery will perfectly fit the look and feel of your wedding day! And share as much as you can with your designer — from prints you may love, floral designs or even interior design.
Do you offer more than just stationery?
I design wedding logos, custom crests/heraldry, illustration and of course corporate identities. I have also recently teamed up with a luxury linen company who can get your monograms designed onto their line of gorgeous linens etc.
