Tracy and I were so excited about today’s interview! Amanda, from Baci Designer Stationery + Events, has been a huge supporter of WeddingLovely – so it was great to finally get to know her a little more. Amanda put together this awesome guest post for us on the importance of a wedding invitation last year that was a big hit! Amanda, thank you so much for your time today and being such a devoted vendor – you rock our socks off! ;)
1. How did you get started doing wedding invitations?
My journey into the wedding industry was spurred like many others – my own wedding! While planning for our 2007 wedding, we had a less than pleasurable experience trying to purchase custom stationery. So I went home and put my skills to work (I have a background in fashion, marketing and advertising) creating my own stationery – from the invitation suite to thank you cards and everything in between. Everyone loved what I had created so at the beginning of 2008 baci was born! Originally, I started part-time while I worked full-time during the day – baci became my full-time job at the beginning of 2009. Throughout the past four years, we’ve added planning and styling to our list of services as well!
See Amanda’s great work after the jump…
2. What is your favorite color combination?
I’m partial to baci’s colors – dark purple and light peach, they were also colors incorporated into my own wedding :o) The femininity of the two, especially when combined with soft ivory tones, just makes me smile!
3. What is the most unique invitation you have designed?
Each time I take on a new client I feel like I get to go on an exciting adventure because we always end up with incredible one-of-a-kind designs! However, the most unique invitation would have to be Jenny and Mike’s – at first glance it looked like a simple photo topped with their names and monogram, but it opened up into a beautiful folded invitation!
4. Do you have a favorite typeface?
There are so many gorgeous typefaces to choose from, so my favorites are constantly changing! Right now I’d have to say I have a serious love for Jessica Hische’s Buttermilk and Matilde from Type Depot. I love anything girly :o)
5. What is the most bizarre request you have received?
Hmm. . . I can’t think of anything you’d necessarily consider truly bazaar, but some of the expectations people have can be interesting! Sadly, most of the time it has to do with the client not being educated about what wedding stationery will cost – 300 of anything will not be $300 ;o)
6. Ampersand or the word “and?”
I prefer “+”!!
7. Any advice for brides?
Before you plan or book anything, sit down with your fiance and determine the three things that are most important to you! If you want a Vera dress, gorgeous custom stationery and beautiful photography you’ll want to research what those things might cost in your area so you can put your budget together appropriately. It might mean cutting the guest list down a bit or sacrificing on something else, but at least you’ll know your top three are accounted for :o) Remember, it’s your wedding so it should be all about you!
8. Do you offer more than just stationery?
We certainly do! Baci offers custom stationery, event styling and planning services – stationery is available nation-wide, styling and planning are available in Northwest and Northeast Ohio but we’re always up for traveling!
