Today’s wedding stationer interview is with Caroline of Caroline Creates, based in Fort Worth, TX! Enjoy:
How did you get started doing wedding invitations?
I am a former ballet dancer and always loved to choreograph so I think being creative was always in my blood. When I was getting married, I couldn’t find anything I liked for my wedding invitations. I had some design experience from working at a publishing company so I really felt I could do them myself. I did and then after started getting requests from friends and family and it really took off from there. Recently, I’ve really combined my passion for being good to the earth with invitation and stationery design. I now specialize in what I like to call “green without all the granola.” : design that is stylish, modern and uses materials that are good for the earth but doesn’t “look” recycled.

What is your favorite color combination?
Right now I’m kind of obsessed with black and gold. Of course, anything with kraft paper I’m a fan of!
What is the most unique invitation you have designed?
I just recently did a Mexican Fiesta style invitation for a wedding. We did a modified tile design and the belly band was laser cut to look like the papel picado banners. It has to be one of my favorite pieces to date.

Do you have a favorite typeface?
Anything that’s sans serif I love. I especially love fun type faces like Aderyn.
What is the most bizarre request you have received?
This isn’t really bizarre but I had a bride ask me to do an invitation in a box. Now this is weird for me because I don’t do a lot of really formal weddings. I mostly work with brides who want something different and unique or non-traditional. I was excited for the challenge though and produced a really beautiful invitation. It’s always fun to try and incorporate different elements into the actual assembly of an invitation and I’m always open to ideas!
Ampersand or the word “and?”
the word “and” in a beautifully illustrated frame.
Any advice for brides?
My biggest advice is always the same: Be sure your wedding is a reflection of you. Don’t choose a trend because you think you should. Choose something that speaks to you and your fiancee. You really want people to get that from your wedding too. You want them to say “This is so them!”

Do you offer more than just stationery?
Right now we do a lot of eco return address stamps, stationery and of course wedding invitations and will be adding recycled iPhone cases to our line in the next couple of weeks. We are always on the lookout for an eco-friendly product to add to our offerings!
