How did you get started doing wedding invitations?
I was constantly designing on the side for friends and family. When it was time to design my very own wedding invitation suite, I fell in love with the process and knew that this was ultimately what I wanted my full time career to be. After two and a half years at my corporate design job, I said a bittersweet goodbye and decided to take a leap of faith to pursue Clark Creative full time.
What is your favorite color combination?
I think my favorite color combo changes daily – there are so many fun palettes out there! Currently I am loving anything with coral. Coral & gold as well as coral & gray are my top two faves.
What is the most unique invitation you have designed?
Probably one where I sewed fabric bunting along the top. I love adding different mediums to paper, so I continued the theme by adhering a twine bow onto the accompanying RSVP cards. It added a playful flare to the invitation suite.
Do you have a favorite typeface?
This changes all the time as well, but lately I love tall skinny fonts like frenchy and tall films. Fonts that look more handwritten are appealing to me. Since we live in such a digital age, I think it helps give a bit more character to the design. I’m a big fan of mixing and matching multiple fonts within one design as well.
What is the most bizarre request you have received?
I haven’t really received any bizarre requests, but I would certainly welcome them! I love creating unique and non-traditional invitations.
Ampersand or the word “and”?
Although I use the word “and” a lot, I’m partial to the ampersand. There are so many ways to showcase it – it really can become an amazing design element.
Any advice for brides?
My advice to brides is to understand how important stationery can be to tie your whole wedding day together. Save the Dates and invitations will set the tone for your wedding, so why not make a killer first impression? It’s so nice to attend a wedding with cohesive style from the moment you receive the invite to the time you leave with a favor in hand. It will leave a lasting impression on your guests! But overall when it comes to your big day, trust your vendors and relax! Don’t worry if something didn’t go as planned, because the only people that will really know is you and your partner.
Do you offer more than just stationery?
We do! My husband and I own the business together and also photograph weddings (check us out on WeddingPhotoLove). I love being able to use photos from the engagement session and create custom designs for their save the dates. It’s fun to play such an important role throughout the couple’s entire wedding planning process and then see their big day come together!
