Today’s wedding stationer interview is with Rebecca of Crafty Pie, based in Raleigh, NC! Enjoy:
How did you get started doing wedding invitations?
I have a background in web design and when I got married 7 years ago, we designed our save the dates. I had so much fun putting them together and I thought this is something I really wanted to do but never really pursued it. I continued doing web design and then, a few years later, I decided to put some invitation designs together on Etsy and the rest is history. I just LOVE being able to use my skills and be apart of one of the most special days a person can have in their life.

What is your favorite color combination?
Currently, I’m loving coral and mint or blush with gold accents, but black and white is always timeless and elegant.
What is the most unique invitation you have designed?
I would have to say my Rustic Chalkboard Design because it combines a chalkboard background with a feather illustration. It’s kind of rustic-meets-boho. My Playful Poster design would come in close second. It has a fun, playful, hand drawn look. Not your typical traditional wedding invitation.
Do you have a favorite typeface?
There’s too many to name! But lately, I’ve been using a lot of handwritten fonts like Strange Love or Jacque and Gilles. But you can’t go wrong with a solid sans-serif font for a modern look.
What is the most bizarre request you have received?
I just recently got a request for a custom save the date designed like a prescription because the couple are both pharmacists. I thought that was a really unique idea!
Ampersand or the word “and?”
That’s a tough one because there’s so many great ampersands, but you can also add a swash to an “and” and make it look fancy.
Any advice for brides?
I know everyone says this, but really try to take time throughout the wedding day just to soak it all in because it does go by really quick. Also, you don’t have to do things just because they’re “tradition” unless you want to, of course.
Do you offer more than just stationery?
Yes, besides wedding stationery, I also just started offering custom guest books.
