Get to Know a Wedding Stationer: Noteworthy Ink

Today’s wedding stationer interview is with Kelsey Boothroyd of Noteworthy Ink, based in Issaquah, WA! Enjoy:

How did you get started doing wedding invitations?

I sort of stumbled into stationery design – I grew up doing all sorts of arts and crafts projects, took every art elective offered in school, and ultimately fell in love with graphic design and print production in college. I loved designing gifts and cards for others around the holidays, though it wasn’t until I was asked to design announcements and wedding invitations by a couple of friends that I really thought about stationery as a career. Designing stationery was the perfect way to make use of my passion for graphic design and illustration.

What is your favorite color combination?

There are so many! I do love a nice built charcoal gray, or kraft paper brown paired with a light rose or aqua.

What is the most unique invitation you have designed?

All of my stationery is custom-made and unique, though the most unique piece I have designed is a custom-illustrated map of the wedding destination, with icons for each of the significant locations to the bride and groom’s relationship.

Do you have a favorite typeface?

Oh gosh, I don’t think I can pick just one! I enjoy pairing simple, serif fonts with an elegant script.

What is the most bizarre request you have received?

The most bizarre – I designed a custom family crest, based on the groom’s family crest, and incorporated the couple’s wedding colors, and illustrated their dog in the center. It turned out really well! The entire invitation suite was also designed to match their elegant Harry Potter-themed wedding.

Ampersand or the word “and?”

It really depends. I love a beautiful ampersand, but I tend to use them for more casual stationery.

Any advice for brides?

Give yourself plenty of time! Order your stationery early, especially if it will be custom-made, and make sure to let your stationer know if you have a budget in mind.

Do you offer more than just stationery?

Absolutely! If it can be printed, I can do it! I create everything from save the dates, to reception stationery, to post-wedding thank you cards, as well as stationery for other special events. I have also made marketing and business materials for other vendors.
