Today’s wedding stationer interview is with Megan of Ruby the Fox Design, based in Washington, DC! Enjoy:
How did you get started doing wedding invitations?
I started doing wedding invitations after a stint in a invitation + event design shop in Bethesda, Maryland (Creative Parties) after college. I feel head-over-heels in love with all things paper and type, and went back to school for graphic design. I then started Ruby the Fox in April of 2009 with a push from my now-husband, and the rest, as they say, is history!

What is your favorite color combination?
I am a sucker for grey. So right now, grey + blush or grey + mint are my absolute faves! Also, two words: GOLD FOIL.

What is the most unique invitation you have designed?
I’ve had the pleasure of working with some fabulous couples who have reached out with some really creative ideas! I recently designed a suite for a couple getting married in Costa Rica that incorporated a fabric belly band which was held close with a custom made pin featuring the couple’s dog (in a bow tie, no less!). That was really fun.
Do you have a favorite typeface?
Typography is my weakness. Right now I’m loving Amethyst from calligrapher Molly Jacques and the always fabulous Mrs. Eaves.

What is the most bizarre request you have received?
I was once asked to create a suite based on a photo of a couple’s dog dressed up as a bride and groom….Enough said.
Ampersand or the word “and?”
Both! Totally depends on the context. But I do love a beautiful ampersand!

Any advice for brides?
Reach out to your invitation designer early in the planning to make sure your paper goods help to translate perfectly the look and feel of your big day! Also, don’t be afraid to share any and all inspiration — from interior design to prints you may love, it all helps paint the picture. Also, HAVE FUN!
Do you offer more than just stationery?
Absolutely! Logo design, day of accessories, you name it!
