Today’s wedding stationer interview is with Eva & Zsolt of Laser Creative, based in Toronto, ON! Enjoy:
How did you get started doing wedding invitations?
We started Laser Creative as a venue that would allow us to collaborate with other artists, designer, craftsmen and friends. We wanted an outlet that would allow us to produce items in a wide range of materials. We bought an industrial laser cutter and LaserCreative.ca was born as a laser cutting and engraving service. Soon afterwards a new client approached us with a custom laser cut wedding invitation order. We were immediately excited over the thought of heavy cottony card stock, chantilly lace, letterpress printing, premium paper, laser cutting, and engraving/etching all coming together to combine in mixed media masterpiece of luxurious materials. The more we learned about premium card stock and artisan papers the more we loved the medium. The wonderfully rich and vibrant colours, the range of textures and the endless finishes kept us researching pulp products for months and months until we found our chosen manufacturers and suppliers. We’ve come to love designing and producing custom wedding invitations for two reasons: it’s a wonderful time to be part of people’s lives and get their big day started off on the right foot with the right invitations, and, the creative possibilities of invites are really quite endless. We use all sorts of non-traditional materials in our work like wood, paper, card stock, leather, acrylic, veneers, fabric, felt and whatever else the project may require. We do prefer to stick to mostly organic and renewable materials that we can source locally.

What is your favorite color combination?
As a designer I couldn’t really say I have a favourite colour combination. I can’t choose just one combination, I love them all. There’s even room in my heart for what people refer to as “clashing” colour combinations. I find them bold, brave, and somewhat endearing. If I would have to pick ONE favourite colour, it would be gray…you may pair it with anything. ;)
What is the most unique invitation you have designed?
Our love tree in real Walnut Wood. The wood adds such a wonderful organic feel, and goes well with almost any colour.
Do you have a favorite typeface?
All the classics designed by the masters that look good in letterpress! This is kind of like the colour question. I don’t have just one. I have at least a dozen favourites if not two.
What is the most bizarre request you have received?
To be honest, nothing has stood out as particularly noteworthy.
Ampersand or the word “and?”
With the right font…AMPERSAND! But I like them between names, never in the copy, or rather seldom in the copy.
Any advice for brides?
Always order more invitations than you think you’ll need.
Do you offer more than just stationery?
Oh yes, we can custom design and manufacture just about anything for weddings….literally anything! Save the Date Cards, Invitations, Thank You Cards, Place Cards, Menu Cards, Seating Chart Displays, Wishing Tree Tags, Invitation Belly Bands…deep breath….Reply Postcards, Trifold Reply Cards, Bridal Shower Cards, Wedding Menus, Seating Charts, Wedding Favour Tags, Custom Wedding Decor, Custom Wedding Favours, ……….deeeeeeeep breath………Fridge Magnets, Map/Accommodation Cards, Table Numbers, Menu Backdrops, Framing, Seating Chart Backdrops, Signs, Decorations, Art Installations……….and more!
